03 Auto Dynojet - I/H/E etc. 240whp/251wtq (untuned)

Our local Maxima club had a dyno day at a very reputable shop just to see what our cars would run. I had 3 pulls, 2 of them I ran the car and the last one Mike @ DL motorsports ran it.

1st. 225whp/225wtq - I was a complete noob at this, and my timing was off with Mikes but I didn't know any better lol. Wasn't what I was hoping for but I was willing to settle for it.

2nd. 239whp/242wtq - I thought Mike was yanking my chain when he read that to me. I thought there was no freakin way I'd get that much without being tuned. With a bit of coaching I ran the car much better and this was the result.

3rd. 240whp/251wtq - This time I let the pro(Mike) run the car, this was far beyond anything I ever expected. I have zero tuning done to the car, this is all from my bolt-ons.

There's definately more power to be had, at least 10hp and 10tq just from installing my E-manage and getting a good tune, since I'm running really rich. I still cannot believe I ran that, but numbers don't lie and I'm super happy at this point.

I have been trying to sift through various dyno threads and I believe I've set a record for an untuned n/a auto 5.5 gen, but please correct me if I'm wrong. I understand this thread may bring in some haters, since I know some of the big gurus of this site hate being proven wrong about what a car can and can't run.

The mods that relate to this:
Short Ram Intake w/AEM dry flow, 17* timing, NWP Phenolic Plenum Spacers, SPI Grounding Kit, Optima Redtop, Cattman Gen 3 Headers/Y, Budget Testpipe, Megan Catback.

And of course, the graph:

I only got a printout of the last run, since that was the highest run.

hmmm...great numbers! Those seem really high to me, but I am no expert. Either way good work!

Why are there two lines on the A/F plot? One is sub 10.0 (which would make the car extremely hard to drive and you would never see those numbers. The other one is ~15.0 which is pretty lean (but lean does make more power typically) but I dunno that running THAT lean would make more power..btw I am not talking about the Stoich line at 14.7.

A/F was not monitered so just ignore that. These were simply power pulls to see where the car was at. The reason I know it's super rich is simply the smell of it while in the shop lol.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Oh ok. A test pipe and headers like that can produce a gassy smell, so the smell doesn't ALWAYS mean rich, but you would know better than anyone else. GL with the tune!

Numbers look about right. Maybe the torque seems a touch high. Should have got the A/F done to have some idea. For all you know you could be running very lean.

Ah wait, just looked at the chart again. That 251 number seems to be off the spike in the beginning if I am reading it right. (kind of blurry). That's not accurate if that is the case. From what I'm seeing, looks like your torque is just above 240 which makes more sense.

Just FYI, my 03 with I/H/E and spacers was running low 13s up to around 5500 then dipping into the mid/low 12s A/F on the stock map. Not too rich! It will almost always smell like gas with no cat and a straight through exhaust.

It looks like your torque peaked just over 240, that 251 was just from the spike on the beginning of the graph. That 239/242 was probably pretty accurate.

I'd reccomend a vias delete/blockoff plate if you want a little more midrange/topend out of it.

Remember dyno setup can make a big difference on power numbers, so get that thing on a track and see how you trap to back those numbers up!

There appeared to be raw fuel dripping outta my exhaust as well, but not sure. Maybe I should get the A/F read and then determine if I even need a tune lol.

Judging by the way the motor jumps, I wonder if getting ES mounts would improve TQ at all?

Not a torque increase, but a decrease in wheel hop and a slight increase in vibration for sure.

I'm suprised your dyno operator didn't delete the torque spikes for you so you could have accurate numbers on your last pull. It looks like around 240/242.

well a decent running I/H/E 6 speed runs in the 250ish range, so assuming an auto probably gives an additonal 3-5% drivetrain loss, 240 isn't unbelievable... and since we know it is more like 240 torque (minus the torque spike on the graph) it makes even more sense.

But that's 250ish with a tune. I don't even know where I'm at with A/F and have no tuning device installed atm. NmexMax is an auto that runs my numbers, and that's with a TS reflash, SAFC tune, and I think the SSIM or something similar. So I think I have good reason to be super happy with my numbers.

No I mean untuned. I didn't say you shouldn't be happy with your numbers, I was just pointing out that your numbers aren't bogus. Like lots will tell you, though, every dyno is going to be different and it's a tuning device more than it is a guage for power. You need to get some runs at the track to see how you trap.

I do hope to get on the strip this summer, but I have no experience at it. It will take me a couple visits to get my launch down and reaction time. I hope it'll run a mid-13, it definately feels strong enough to do that.

Skidz, get the mounts asap. Best mod I've done. Look at my vid compared to yours and look at the motor movement. Even go up to 7400rpm on mine there was no movement at all. Also get that tranny cooler in!

Yeah but you'll get a hang of it pretty quickly, I'm sure. Also don't worry whatsoever about reaction time... It will only MATTER when you do bracket racing. Your reaction time doesn't add to your final time. You could sit at the light for 2 seconds then go and still get a mid 13.

Make sure to do some of the minor mods on your trans ie cooler and DR mod. Maybe even a controller and torque converter if you really want to see good times.

Yea the engine movement between Tdots car and mine is night and day, definately gotta do that.

Thanks for that info Spark, I didn't know RT doesn't matter lol, shows how much of a noob I am at the strip. I'm still waiting on my tranny cooler to arrive, I also have a spare VB with the Transgo shift kit installed on it that I should throw in as well.

I will be getting my Greddy EB installed and tuned on Wednesday so hopefully I'll have new numbers to post up soon. I'm aiming for 250whp.

Hey guys I'm posting this graph for comparison. I dyno'd on this exact same dyno, with my car about a year ago. So in case some people are saying, the dyno gives large numbers or you just plain don't believe what is going on. Here's my 6 spd, vs his auto, with basically the same mods. Only big difference is I am tuned. And he has test pipe with megan catback, I'm using catman fastcat and catback.

And someone said that with no cat the car will always smell like gas. That is not true. A tuned car has a very unique smell after a WOT run on the dyno.

Oh, BTY did I mention that I'm annoyed that an untuned auto is almost putting out the same numbers as me?

A couple of things I should mention that the tuner noticed. The OP's numbers won't go much higher with his present setup. After attempting to dyno tune the greddy blue was logging the injector duty cycle at just over 76% and the maf voltage was maxed out at about 4.86 V. Time for bigger injectors and the BBMAF mod!!

And sometimes a tune isn't even necessary. I know my car rarely, if ever, smells like gasoline, and I'm running the RMT test-pipe.

Haven't paid attention to this thread for the last little while, woopsie! Thanks for all the props guys!

I've decided to stick it out with the BBMAF only, and skip the injectors. I'll run the stock injectors up to max safe load which is 85% and see where I'm at from there. I think at that point I'll be happy with the car(I'm happy as it is lol). I have a great suspension setup but I wanna focus more on that as well as the cars chassis from here on out. A couple hundred here, a couple hundred there and I think I'll be done modding my car, for now anyways.

I will definately be heading out to the strip at some point this year and when I do I'll post up my timeslip. If I can get my hands on stickier rubber I'm hoping for a mid to low 13 second time.

Fantastic numbers. Can't wait to see what you put down 'tuned'. (timing & AFR).
