I dyno'd the Maxima this morning just to have something to compare to later on. Pretty predictable numbers with just a y-pipe and cat-back basically. Dyno'd in 4th gear, of course. Car made 170 WHP and 180 WTQ. It was about 50 or 55 degrees in the shop and it was raining I did 3 pulls and they were really consistent, only wavering a couple tenths here and there on the horsepower and the torque went up a little with each pull as the car got warmed up properly.
This graph is from run 2 of 3, the third run had the highest numbers but they were all REALLY close.
wtf? I could have sworn you were auto for some reason!
Nice numbers! Not bad at all if its just y-pipe and catback. I would have rather seen some dynojet #s for a real heads-up comparison to other setups here. "Dynomite" reminds me too much of J. J. from Good Times...
What is next is line for the car? What are the big plans here?

@ JJ. Dynojet numbers would have been nice but I feel that what I got was very accurate. No need to raise them up to make myself feel better haha. The big plans? I don't know. I'm going to try and save some money up over the winter instead of blowing it on mods and see what I can afford in the spring. It was fun owning a turbo car, but every time I drove that car I couldn't wait to get back into the Maxima because the power is just so SMOOTH! So who knows...maybe a 3.5? We'll see. I am still weary of swapped-car reliability so convince me wrong please

Yes, and no. I don't have that car anymore but I didn't sell it, I totalled it unfortunately It WAS supposed to be sold but it bit the big one before I could sell it.
IMO a swap can be perfectly reliable, all depends on how it's done and every detail/aspect accounted for. Look at eng92 for example, there's a well done, well thought out swap and every detail accounted for.

I think my biggest reason for worrying about reliability is that no one local knows jack squat about VQ's. When I had my Talon, I had a buddy with me every step of the way who knew how things worked on the 4G63. If I did a 3.5 I'd be learning it all the hard way

I think I've done a pretty good example of what a well-done and tuned swap can do.
(SAE #s)
250WHP Stock motor with bolt-ons SSIM and AFC with timing advance via ubber correction, Cutout
369WHP Same but RMT'd with MAF max'd out
254WHP Same motor with cams, but EB tuning with NO indirect ign timing advance what so ever and 3" catback
No burning oil, compression is dead on as of last time I checked,
This last tank, I still managed 22.6mpg! about 70% highway. WITH my heavy foot, and mind you, I dont have oxygen sensors (tuned "closed loop" with EB)
Been just over 2yrs since the swap, and already put on about 35,000 miles on it, and its running better now than ever.
All because....

just wondering why did you make such a big deal of mileage when you were looking to buy a car if your looking to do a 3.5swap
you could have saved alot of money by getting a maxima with a bad or blown motor got a 3.5 swapped and it still may have been cheaper than the max you bought

Cool those are the exact same number I dynoed in my max with a y-pipe and intake.
On what kind of dyno? I'm just curious.

Mileage applies to a lot more than just the motor, first of all. Secondly, I haven't decided to do a motor swap. I may still do something else.
Not to bad at all for basically stock. what the milage on the car and was that running 91 octance or 93 ? also you should do the coolant bypass mod as its good for a few hp

Sorry I didn't see this until now. The car has ~125k miles on it and that run was with 93 octane in the tank, since we really don't have 91 here.

This isn't a 3.5 car and it's older. This car has a 3.0 and it's a '98. The same year Altima would have a 2.4.
I'm mainly focusing on small, non-engine related stuff right now. Basically, just getting the car to where the old one was interior-wise and doing little tasteful aesthetic things. Once I have that and some subframe connectors out of the way (all of that should be done fairly soon) any and all money will be directed to the engine. First, it needs a PROPER 00VI setup. From there, it all depends on how much cash I want to dump into my daily driver I guess.
