Finally dynoed the maxima.

Well whats up guys, i finally got the maxi dynoed, needless to say im not impressed BUT i have a few excuses for the lowish numbers.

First of all, the MEVI is not activating..that was a nice kick in the balls at $150/hr tuning. So my first pull was 169whp/189wtq. Torque was good but hp was pure crap, my power dropped faster then a fat chick on ice.

Well after realizing my mevi was not opening, we decided to run it with the mevi tied open. Well it did really help top end, i managed to pull 181.63whp and 172.5wtq. Now here are my excuses, i dont have a lot of time\money, so the car did not get to cool down, those runs were made almost back to back. There was no fan setup infront of the car so it was running on the hot side, i figure it was pretty badly heatsoaked. There fan wasnt working so i said whatever im already here. We did pull some fuel, if anyone is really interested i can go check my safc2, we were able to get some more power out of it, what really scared me was how lean the JWT ECU in open loop i think. I still get the 2 mixed up, but just normal driving when we were getting up to speed, the A/F were almost in the 15 range. It was running very rich especially considering the mevi wasnt opening, once i tied it open it wasnt bad but still was rich. Atleast it pulls smoothly all the way to the redline, and the A/F curve is nice! Oh ya, all the runs were done in 3rd and 4th. We did a few all out runs and the guy took it up to 220kmh lol..it was pretty cool got that one on video. He did the 1/4 simulation thing.

All in all its not bad, 181.63WHP/172.50WTQ. Low definately lower then i was hoping but whatever i got some issues to work out.

On the good side, the guy must have liked me, as he offered me a job there if i was interested. I am definately thinking about it, although its kinda out of my way thats definately what i want to be doing.

Nmexmax, im sorry but i dont have run-files right now, he is going to email them to me tomorrow. I do have the printed up run and break down.

I was happy the guy gave me a good break on pricing, i was there for an 1.5 hours did about 12-15 runs plus tuning and it only cost me $125. Now if only my car pulled some better numbers

On the other note, could anyone help me on my mevi situation? Basically what is happening, on part throttle then to WOT the mevi opens, but if i just plant it and go WOT it doesnt open. Like if i ease into the throttle it opens, but as soon as i shift it closes and stays shut untill i let off the throttle where it opens and closes. I have the OEM Nissan vacuum canister, dawes control solenoid, and im t'd off the FPR. I am seriously at a loss i have no clue whats going on here. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Video for those of you who are bored: The mevi was tied open in this run. sounds pretty good!

I recorded almost every run so ill post those up after. God damn its loud!!

Those are really low numbers....You should be damn close to 200/200 with your mods....get that MEVI situation fixed and just do some regular dynos....

What gas grade are you using? Also check for Knock sensos code.

91 Octane, 94 on occasions. My honest guess is if i had of let it cool down for longer i would have been in the 189whp range, still low though. I just noticed i had a connector unplugged, for what i dont know, its right by the FPR, i guess i disconnected it when i originally t'eed off the FPR and forgot to plug it back in. The compression in the motor is good, 195 on 5 cylinders and 190 in one of them. I think the 190psi one was # 5. The motor does have quite a bit of mileage though about 195,000 miles.

Next time im not going to rush and end up at the dyno. I am hoping ill be able to fix the mevi issue asap.

One of the piggy back ecu's they use there is the unichip, personally i have heard very little about it, but i may consider it. Although id like to know for sure if it can alter ignition timing and retain it.

So i was talking to my freind, and i came up with this. I figure my numbers should have been around this. if this makes sense.

My first dyno with the mevi not activating was 169whp/189wtq. Now my best dyno with the mevi tied open was 182whp/173wtq. Now figure peak torque occured at about 4600rpm, which is before the mevi opens, i figure i should have been dynoing about 182whp/189wtq. Now i should take into account the heat soak, 189 is fine, because that was with a good cool down, the 182whp was after either the 8th or 9th back to back run, 3 of which the mevi was tied open. mevi equipped maximas always dyno less torque then hp, just because it looses those resonance humps, which means if i take roughly into account for the heat soak, id be perhaps in the 190ish range in whp. Now, heres the thing, from what i have read, quite a few people have complained that the dyno reads low at resnick, not just maximas, but all cars in general, the guy who was there before had a tundra and was down 20-30whp, there are a few 335I guys who dynoed 20-30whp less then they should have, a fellow maxima owner dynoed a lot lower given he had a boost leak, there are a few honda guys ive talked to who also dynoed low (140whp on h22 with i/h). I guess if i roughly take that into consideration my numbers arent that bad.

Now purely this is all speculation, but it all makes sense in my head..minus the dyno numbers which are lower compared to other dynos.

Can anyone see if my above theory makes sense? The reason why i think the heat soaking made such a big difference was there was no fan used, and to be honest with you, my fans werent on much. the temp needle i dont think ever went below half, and usually it never gets there. How bad can heat soak affect an engine in terms of power? Ive seen what it can do to traps and et's.

I would try checking te vaccum connections meng, make sure theres no leak.

Im not basing it off any experience, as I went from USIM on the 3.0, to a 3.5 VI that didnt stay VI for long (lol), but I have a strong suspision that your vaccum canister isnt holding vaccum for w/e reason. Also, what are you using to signal it? Harlam/ MSD rpm switch?

Summit RPM switch. The vacuum canister is an oem nissan 14958-V6700, from the VE30 maxima. I have a feeling i am in need of a check valve reason being, is that the VE30 maxima also use a check valuve (delay valve). Hopefully this sorts it out, i had my parts guy at work overnight ship it from toronto, cost me 12$ but you cant beat OEM quality and super fast shipping!

What do you guys think about my theory on my numbers? Reasonable or make no sense what so all.

Some how do some data logging and see what you timing is during a wot run....Stock on mine is about 15ish through a WOT run in 1st with an auto...The JWT should be 6 or so degrees more IIRC....

Yeah. I can try use the consult-2 at work. although ill have to drive and watch at the same time. unless i can find someone to come with me. I think i have figured out my MEVI issue, but i wont say for sure untill i get my check valve. hopefully this works guys!!

Edit--should note i think my clutch is starting to slip now i did some WOT runs yesterday night only went up to 3rd gear, but i could smell clutch shortly after. Freakin sucks..i dont think this clutch even has many miles on it, hopefully i will be able to work something out though.
