Another dyno!

So I went back to the dyno this weekend.

This is a comparison of my best dyno from last month, to that of this weekend.
Things new for this dyno... "jdm" headers with custom equal length ypipe, ubber short intake (no midpipe).

I was somewhat disappointed that its mostly the same thing! Peak #s are now 243.5whp (244dammit! :-D)/ 237wtq.

Then I looked closely at redline. Notice how at redline I gained 10whp and 9wtq!!! Of course at the stock redline thats caca, since the gain starts right at the fuel cut basically, but keep in mind I'll soon be reving this motor to 7000-7200. So a 10whp improvement at the stock redline sure will add area under the curve for that extended redline.

Here's a closer look...

Am I disappointed about the headers? Not that bad. Headers dont do that much over the stock headers in NA form, so I wasnt expecting much. But from what Ive learned, long-runner headers sure love dem some ignition timing advance. the conjunction of the two makes for much better results rather than one by its own (they complement each other in that sense). Same as an ubber short intake/ 3" MAF/ SSIM all work together to make that top end ubber.

One thing I must say about the headers tho, even if they didnt make any big power (for now) over stock headers with WSP ypipe... the SOUND alone is worth it all! Yooooooo, my car SOUNDS like a Z33 on roids! Hopefully gtr_rider will chime in about it- he was standing next to me behind the car. Wow it sounds amazing! If you dont have EQUAL LENGTH HEADERS, be it Hotshots, Cattmans, or custom rigs like mine.... you DO NOT have REAL headers :stfu: lol.

So I cant wait for that EU. GoalieKeg my friend!, Eddy requires that ubber PnP harness :-D please! :-D

Nice numbers. However, is it me or you are preaty lean across the board? Can you get a close up pic of your a/f graph!

Good power 95BLKMAX and thanks for spending the dyno time (and $) to show us how well individual mods perform. It will be interesting to see how well the power is held past redline. I will be waiting for that dyno with EU.

Remember this is a sniffer wideband, which always read leaner than true a/f- from my experience by about 0.4:1 leaner. So really if you see 13.9:1, its actually more like 13.5:1 for example.

Thanks MexiMax, neither can I

meh... increasing dyno #s seems to be easier than decreasing track times . Plus, if my #s on the dyno go up, all else constant, the track times will go down. Sooooo since I have 3 dynos within 1/2 hr from my house, and the track is 1.5 hrs away, yea I do spend more time on the dyno, LOL

What do you use for tuning? Can you make that a/f line straighter? It should help make more power.

That only applies if you have a cat installed.

Oh yea??? oh well its still within a safe margin. NMexMax has tried doing low 14s a/f and no pinging, but thats pushing it to me.

Sonicdust, Im using an SAFC1. I cant really get it any straighter than that, as I only have 8tuning points in 500rpm increments from 3000 to 6500.

EU will sort this out.... when I get it, lol

Considering the resolution of that AFR, I'd say you're doing your best with what you have. I go that lean because it's been safe so far, and it does add timing indirectly. ( ). If I had means to directly control timing, I don't think I would go that far.

Being resourceful FTW.

But honestly, these cars are picky, so no one correction will mean the same 2 AFR’s for a given RPM in 2 separate ‘runs’. That is also the disadvantage of ‘tuning’ with the MAF. So, like I said, Sonicdust needs to pay more attention to the resolution you used in order to really see how flat of a line it is. I’ve street tuned many times and dynod about as many times, and no 2 dyno runs/street run AFR’s will be the same, EVEN when using the EXACT unchanged correction% maps.

I dont need to pay attention to anything. I know that it will look worst the more resolution you have on the graph. However, using a SAFC to tune is crap and it doesn't have the resolution to make the whole graph as smooth as can possibly be had. Btw I do know that no 2 dynos will produce same readings.

Lighten up Jesus.

My point was that it’s difficult to get a smooth line, no matter if you’re using a SAFCI, SAFCII or VAFCII. Yes, it’s crap, but it’s all some of us have right now, and is certainly better than nothing.

I can do OK with the SAFCII.

Nice numbers
I'd say throwing some timing to it between 3000 and 4500 RPM w/ the EU will really straighten that torque curve for you.
In for some sound clips too!

great, so now I have to get sound clips .

streetz! Lets go have some highway fun with the camera :-D.

Sonic, when NMexMax refered to the resolution I dont think he was refering to the resolution of the graph, but the resolution of the AFC (amount of points). Its def like the bare bones of AFCs (I have the SAFC-1, lol) but like he said, its better than having nothing at all, certainly has gotten the job done for the last 2 years that I've been rocking it. But yea EU is way beyond it.

Jmeister, (nice username btw, lol. Not a fan of Jagger, but it does taste good with Red Bull ) funny you mention advancing timing.

Last nite I wanted to do some logging with streetz laptop and we decided to try out if the timing corrections would work or not. It is adjustable from -15* to +15*. We did a 2nd gear pull with normal ECU timing, then we did +5* and did another 2nd gear pull... It pulled ALMOST as hard as E55AMG's old Max, streetz and me looked at each other like....

daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn!!!!!!!

Those RPMs flew to redline and w got pined to the seats like woah, felt like streetz car when it spools up, insane, lol. And that was just on +5*

Sorry, its an OBD2 scanner program, Nissan Data something. It has most diagnostics, has an option to monitor just about anything on the ECU, and it can also, advance/retard timing, turn off individual coils, the fuel pump, etc... Of course the changes arent permanent thanx to our ROM-only ECU.
