VQ35 swap after new HGs

Ok, last dyno was http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=494574. (220whp-223wtq). It was rich, had an exhaust leak at rear header. Things different with my setup from that last dyno are...

- Fixed Exhaust Leak
- Added CAI
- Added Straight Pipe
- SAFC Tuned (last time I didnt really do much tuning)
- Fuelab FPR (ebay POS unit rusted and seized at 70psi FTL, so I hammered it to peices after replacing it lol)
- PF TB with StephenMax's Adapter
- NEW Cooper NGK Spark plugs (last dyno I just cleaned up the plugs that were in and reused them)

Note- Sorry, no Run Files

This is the printout with all 4 runs on it...

Note- The 1st run did not have the sniffer hooked up, thats the blue line at 18:1.

This is the print out comparing Run01 against Run04...

For those that will ask me, even though its on the link on the top , my mods are...
- CAI
- PF TB
- Stock 3.0 Headers+ WSP Ypipe+ WSP Straight Pipe
- MotoStorm UDP
- Fuelab FPR
- Z33 HGs
- No P/S belt (forgot to mention this on the previous thread, but it was also like this on the previous dyno, so no change)
- SAFC1-Tuned for 13.0:1 and slightly richer towards redline
- VI powerflap is running full open

My Final 2 cents...
Sure peak #s are slightly less than before, but that means nothing. A 3WHP difference can be caused by anything. Area under the curve>*. These power curves are alot more healthy-looking IMO compared to before.

Also, I used to have to empty my oil catch can pretty much every gas tank fill. Now, I finished the HG replacement just before X-Mas. Its been exactly 2 months since I finished and the catch can has not been drained ONCE. There is exactly I'd say less than 1/8 of the capacity of oil in the can for the last 2 months.

This baby is being held back so much its insane. I might just have to go all out NA (with bolt ons, no internal work other than more cam retard on intake cams with custom-speced adapters, and ARP Rod Bolts) and see how much juice I can squeeze out on stock cams and 3.0 ECU. Things such as WSP catback (still rocking the stock stuff with the nasty crimped b-pipe), SSIM, the new re-designed OBX headers, and of course, E-Manage Ultimate for ubber timing advance and extended rev limiter.

So your theory is a better head gasket will limit the amount of oil going into the IM? Those are some good numbers. You should try going leaner. I have mine tuned very close to 13.5. Its safe for short bursts.

I also recommend a budget B-pipe. I just got one. Its high quality at a cheap price. About $240.00 American.

Well Im not saying that the HGs ARE the cause of the execive blow-by on 3.5s. All Im saying is that it was ALMOST eliminated after I replaced mine. I was experiencing massive air buildup in the cooling system, insane blow by, and 3 of my spark plugs (#3 #5 and #6 cylinders) had coolant on them. I put in the Z33 head gaskets (which are triple layer, rather than double as those of the FWD 3.5s) and all the previous problems went away.

I agree with you on the 13.5:1 a/f ratio being safe. I had it like this on the 3.0 over a year with no problems. But Im choocing to keep it on the safe side for now.

Aluminuzed B-Pipe from WSP is mandrel bent and with resonator its $170+shipping :-D.

Thanx guys.

do you feel that your power loss is a result of slightly lower compression from thicker gaskets?

a 3whp loss can be due to the correction factor on the dynojet's computer. Besides come on 3whp isnt noticeable, lol. I cant notice a change on the butt dyno until about 10whp. Also, even though the current gaskets have an extra layer, they are designed to compress to the same width as that of the double layer. Remember the Z engines (not including the rev up motors) have the same exact compression as the FWD engines. So there's no concern on that

Great numbers! Did you feel a big impact from the SAFC?

About the new OBX headers, how was the design altered?

I did, I almost think upgrading to SP2 on XP screwed the drivers up somehow. My tuning was WAY off, I ran a horrible time.
