New dyno after 3.5 swap

Here are the new numbers. The graph shows my best 3.0 dyno versus the new 3.5 dyno. The low range torque is low I believe because of the high lift cams and lack of variable cam timing. Also I disabled the 2k2 variable intake manifold which hurts low end some also. The 2k2 manifold definately doesn't hold power like a MEVI at high rpm, even with the cams.




Changes since last dyno (shown):

VQ35DE engine with VQ30 timing equipment (no variable cam timing)
JWT VQ35DE knockoff cams (260 duration, 10.9mm lift)

additional power mods:
JWT VQ30DE ECU with 7000 rpm redline
SAFC-II (tuned to 13:1)
JWT short ram intake
70mm ported pathfinder TB
Cattman headers
2.5 inch test pipe with 2.5 cutout
2.5 inch exhaust(dyno numbers posted will be open cutout)

holy hell those are some sick #'s.
I believe that is about where Jay25 was when he had supercharged his max for the first go around. (same dyno btw)

DAMN DAMN DAMN your well over 300bhp at the crank. Hell i think your doing better than most of the guys with 3.5's in their car from the factory

There is no such thing as whp at the crank.

Usually a modified engine produces more power than a stock factory engine

I thought guys with modded 3.5's was implied. I thought Sr20DEn was t he highest at like 269whp or something?

wow, nice numbers! did you do the swap yourself? this makes it look tempting, but there's nothing wrong w/ my 3.0 that would give me an excuse to swap it out right now.
and did you have any problems tuning w/ the AFC along w/ the JWT ecu? I've heard people have problems because of JWT's maps.

You're supposed to use the stock valve springs with those cams. There's really no reason to get stiffer valve springs since the VQ35 can't rev very high anyways. Even if you get upgraded rod bolts, I believe the maximum you want to take a VQ35 to would be 7200-7500rpm which wouldn't be enough to introduce valve float. I think there's some people running the VQ30 at 8000rpm with the stock valve springs.

welll i was wondering since i am running nismo cams in mine and i may want to increase the rev limit using EU down the road

Yes,

I knew I would not be revving very high with this engine. It just doesn't like it near as much as the old 3.0. Technosquare increases the 350z revlimit to 7100rpm, so I figured I would be fine at a maximum of 7000rpm. I don't suspect the valve springs with last 200k mikes with that much lift from the cams, but it ought to be fine for a long time.

I have no desire to dyno more than him. His dyno is not very realistic to compare to since there is no one else that high with an altima or maxima.



My dyno numbers include full accessories. I did not remove power steering or A/C when I did the swap. I kept the same spark plugs that were in the engine when I got it from the junkyard. I just wanted to go and get it tuned since I knew I was running rich. I did not go just for numbers to brag about.

No you're not. These are a knock-off of the JWT S1 cams and they recommend upgrading the valvesprings.
There's really no reason to get stiffer valve springs since the VQ35 can't rev very high anyways. Even if you get upgraded rod bolts, I believe the maximum you want to take a VQ35 to would be 7200-7500rpm which wouldn't be enough to introduce valve float. I think there's some people running the VQ30 at 8000rpm with the stock valve springs.
You're forgetting something. Because of the higher valve lift the valve has to travel farther up and down in the same amount of time. This higher valve speed requires a stiffer spring.

Actually I talked to JWT, and this is straight off their website:

Includes 24 springs and shims for use with JWT race cams or JWT street cams with rev. limit raised above 7000 rpm
They said I did not need to replace the valve springs with my rev-limit at 7000rpm.

I've had dialogue with the original seller of these cams via nissanforums.com before. Stock valve springs CAN be used, but are not required.

I think what it means is that the listed cold valve lash range is required to use stock valve springs and it is written like they are two separate lines.

How much does your car weigh?

Eh...hold your horses. While it's true his peak numbers are up there with SR20's, the shape of his curve isn't the same due to the lack of VTC's and the stock IM. (See that huge dip in the mid-range? And SR20 made solid HP past redline while this dyno seems to be dropping off fairly quickly.) And if he hasn't done any weight reduction, he won't necessarily be any lighter either. I'm not saying it's impossible, but we should just wait to see how it goes...bench racing is .

I really don't want to speculate since I haven't been to the track yet, and I might not even make it before it gets way too hot, but cartest shows me being able to hit a 12.99 on a 2.03 60 ft time. Cartest was right on before, but that just seems hard to beleive to me.

If you can get the car too hook you will definitely be in the low 13's @ 107-108 on street tires if you're in the sub 3k range race weight. 12's are yours on sticky tires for sure!

I only have street tires. I have a buddy with 255/50-16 ET street radials on 16 inch mazda rx-7 wheels, if they will fit.
If I ever meet up with Elon (6spd_hayes) at the track, he has drag radials as well.

If I am close on street tires, I will make sure it happens somehow.

Well if you ever get slicks, take it from me; get big ones. It got so old to spin 3/4 of the time with the 23's, do yourself a favor and go for 26's or 24.5's right away if you decide to get slicks.
