how to remove clear coat?

As a result of the tornado (see sig), there were several defects in the paint. Most of the damage was done by shingles. There was a lot of muddy glue from the shingles, somehow caked onto my paint, and the only way to get it off was with a scotch brite pad (i know).

So, here's the thing, there are deep swirl marks in a few places where i need to somehow get down to the actual paint and redo my clear coat.

Unless there's another way...maybe a severe wet sand, and just mist it with some clear coat? I really know nothing about paint.

You really can't "redo" the clear coat. Wetsanding down to the base (color) coat will probably damage it.

in some places, yeah. like on the bumper, there is a spot where all the clear coat was removed. other places just have really bad swirling issues. i'm thinking a buff will take care of those, but i don't know for sure...i was wondering if anyone else has experience with this.

where are the problems located at? you can go all the way down to the base color by wet sanding start with 800 grit then 1200 then 2000 and you can buff and polish it and it will look like a clear coat.. but it you get water on it the area will just go back to normal, dull and scratched. there really isn't any other way other than reclearing the entire pannel that has the inperfection

what if i did what you said, all over the whole car, and hit the whole car with a few coats of DupliColor clear coat?
