Debadge question

I finally got rid of the badges on my trunk. But i noticed there's a color difference where the badge used to be so you can kinda still tell a little where the badges were. How do i get that to blend in? Some compound?

Clay bar would work if there was residue on the paint, if your taking about paint diffrence due to UV rays and the fact that the paint under the letters or numbers were not exposed to these rays then I dont think you can do much about it. but surface contaminants can be removed with a clay bar.

Yea, i'm talking about the fact that the paint under the badges is slightly darker due to it not being exposed to sunlight and all the other variables. I was able to get rid of all the residue no prob. It's just the difference in paint color. I'm probably gonna hit it with some compound. I don't think claybar would do the trick seeing that that mainly meant for residue removal.

clay bar first then use Meguire's 3 step process. (cleaner, polish & wax)

take your time and really work in the chemicals....

After that give it a few days in the sun and it will fade away. It will become less noticeable as time goes by.

if i tell you, you'll laugh you a$$ off... i was impatient and didn't want to go to strauss to get that plastic debadging tool so i just used very flat wood chisel and use a cotton cloth behind it so it doesn't scratch the paint. worked like a charm! no scratches or anything. didn't even damage the badges. i can still use the badges back when i'm ready to resell the Max.

lol...thats awesome!! I got a thin paint scraper i might end up using...just maybe put a strip of duct tape on the back side to keep it from scraping the paint

Pics Dammit!!!!

On a serious note, will goo-gone work? I'm thinking about doing this. I have a bottle of this stuff and it works really well with price stickers.

Make sure to get the Real Goo Gone liquid. Dont get those gels or citruis smelling goo gone... It will take forever to remove those sticky residue.

The real "gas smelling" goo gone works betters. It will leave your car's clear coat a little tarnish but after a polish and wax it will look good as new.

Ive done that multiple times. no worries!

I have the same issue, I used goo gone to remove the emblems and you could still see the shadow of "maxima" and "3.5 SE" in the background. I plan on getting my car detailed soon, so hopefully they will be able to get rid of the shadow cuz its mad annoying.

Want to debadge my max, but it appears that whoever had it before me (all of 4 years ago) used something other than the usual adhesive on it..not sure what it is exactly but if i had to guess i'd say epoxy of some sort, it is clear, but very very hard. Any ideas on what would take that off without destroying the paint? Thanks!

If the paint is a different color due to the rest of the car fading, you're screwed.

For you guys who have done this already- are there any holes behind the badges or is it completely flat? I have seen this done on some cars besides the max and there are holes in the trunk.

I want to take mine off but not if I have to bondo holes and repaint

there are no holes. Only two sided tape is holding the badges to the trunk. best method to get them off the trunk is to use a piece of fishing line. i heard that works great instead of doing it the way i did.
