Hand swirl removal?

I've been reading through the threads but haven't found a thorough explanation on removing swirls in paint by hand. I know this is not the most efficient way, but that is all some of us have .

I have a black 5th gen and trying to remove the swirls has caused me many sleepless nights. Can someone please help? Please give information regarding products and techniques used.

Thanks!!!

I use 3M swirl remover by hand and it does a real good job obviously not as with a machine but it deffinatly works better than meguires scratch x. Just be prepared for a long day with it and a sore arm. It usually takes me about 6 hours to do the whole car. I use the swirl remover on one body pannel then folow with a wax right after and move on to the next section. You can pick it up at your local walmart for like $10.

I cleaned it up today with one of those waterless cleaners. Works o.k., but it didn't really bring the color out. I'll probably be polishing it in the next couple of days and I'll try one of the mentioned products.

Dag, I wish I had a RO.

PM goathead. He's a good detailer. Copied from his thread:

Well, I recently picked up a 2001 sherwood green Maxima SE, it's very clean and has 112k on it but I don't believe that it was ever detailed before. Definitely looks like it was a frequent attendee of car washes though. I just kicked off this project and I'm hoping to finally get a detail documented start to finish....so here goes
Before:

After:

Here's what I'm using (goathead) both product and pad combo:
Optimum Compound - orange pad
Optimum Polish - white pad
Red Moose Machine Glaze - grey pad
Poorboys EX-P sealant - grey pad
Red Moose 100% pure Carnuba wax - blue pad

I'm just not in the mood to drop a couple hundred on a polisher and have completely no clue as to what I'm doing.... But I guess that doing it is the only way to learn.

Anyway, I need to do it soon. My baby has a lot more potential than she is showing right now.

Canadian tire. Its not a heavy duty rotary polisher, just a 8 inch wax polisher. Works fine, did a really great job, cannot burn your paint (not strong enough), and not expensive. Why not. I wax and polish my car with it. Takes realllllyy less time, does a better job.

Nice product selection.

With a 5th gen or newer, you really need at least a DA/RO buffer to remove swirls due to the hard clear coat.

Wet sand it! You will get alot of the swirls out, small scratches etc...., its some work but your car will look like glass and sooooo smooth.
