I got ahold of a bumper for my i30. But its pretty scratched up and some of the paints gone. So I was wanting to repaint it. So im thinking the best way would be I get some sand paper and roughing the surface a bit. Then use some primer, then paint it. If that's the appropriate way then the color primer should I use? Gray? Black? Tan?
Oh the car is beige color or as Infiniti calls it : sunlit sand metallic

Prep work before painting is crucial in order for it to turn out properly. I'd recommend finding a good body shop to have it done. It will cost you a few hundred dollars, but it will be done right the first time. Also, it helps that they have the car there so they can blend the paint to get it to match up as best as possible to the car.

Given that bumpers on Maximas and i30/35s are urethane or plastic, you will need a paint with a flex additive to prevent the paint from cracking on a flexible surface.

Find a local automotive paint and body store. Purchase 220 and 400 grit wetsand paper, grey scotchbrite pads. (green is too corse) medium build primer. Color does not matter. Grey is most common. Purchase your paint and clear. Be sure to get a two stage finish. stage one is paint stage two is Clear. All modern paint is flexiable enough for every part on the car

Sand the damaged areas with the 400. if it wont come out steup up to the 220. Finish all sanded areas off with 400. All sanding should be done with soapy water.

Use the scotch brite pad to scuff the entire bumper. You want it dull with no shine. This will give the paint something to bite into.

Prime only the areas you sanded. wetsand primer with 400.

Clean entire bumper with some kind of prepsall.

Tack bumper

Apply your favorite color in light dusting layers.

apply clear is semi heavy coats

let dry and enjoy
