Touch-up paint

Guys I went to the dealer to get some touch up paint for my 01 AE and when I talked to the guy behind the counter he said that since my car is an 01 and it is now 08 that it would not match as well as the original color. The color is grey luster. Is he correct do I bother trying to match it? Thanks

how much are you trying to touch up?

You could try aftermarket paint: http://www.paintscratch.com/

I can tell you that I bought some touchup from paintscratch and the jury is still out on matching the color. Not their problem, but prob age of the car. My 2000 had a lot of hood chips. Put on the base coat and color is way off but looked fine on the white sample card I tried it on. Have to put the clear coat on to see what affect that will have. The dealer is right and I really dont know if anyone other than a prof shop would solve our issues of matching paint. I'm hoping the clearcoat changes things, but I doubt it will change it much. I've heard it will change the color somewhat so I have to see what it will do.

I did fix some rust on the door w/ POR 15 and put on the paintscratch touchup paint and it looks good for what it's worth. The hood gets more sun so that is prob why the issues there more than on the door.

Your paint is faded after 7 years. Professional shops will take the amount of years into account and try to blend the paint to match the color it currently is.

Different models can mean different paint jobs. Find out what your exact paint is called

I don't think he's having problems figuring out what his paint code is. His question is one I've considered as well: how do you account for aging paint which has likely faded and is not the same as a fresh coat of new paint of the same code. As Kyle00 says though - professional paint shops should be able to account for this.

No it will not match. It will be noticable. I tried on my other max that was a 99 about a year and a half ago and it looked like crap. It was definitly obvious i tried to touch it up.
