Scottwax, got a question for you.

There's a customer of mine that owns a 2001 Lexus IS300, black, very nice car. It came with TONS of swirls so I did the usual orange pad with a XMT#2 polish, which was a moderate swirl remover. I found it TOO easy to remove the swirls and was left with GREAT results. I went easy on the clear but found that the polish would become SOAKED black after maybe two panels. Which kind of worried me. Now almost 5 months later he comes back and the car is getting swirly AGAIN! I used Klasse AIO Sealant Glaze and S100 Paste Wax which on my Altima has lasted almost a year and some months! I know he does his own washing and I've explained to him the proper procedure and told him if he didn't want to that he could bring it over and I'll do it for him. But he has only done that twice. Could it be the car from the factory comes with the weakest paint/clear in the world? Or is the guy not following my instructions and swirling up his car? Because I'm afraid the guy might pull a "You're the detailer, you probably did something wrong" b/s. I'm going to try JETSEAL 109 and either ChemGuys Concourse Wax or Pete's '53 on this car and see if that helps.

Just any general tips for this case would be awesome!

Gene

Jet black Lexus and Toyotas usually don't have a clear coat, so that would explain your pads getting black. I haven't used any of the XMT stuff so I don't know if it has any fillers in it.

With single stage paint, I use Meguiars. Most of the 80 series polishes were developed before most cars had clear coats so they work well on single stage paints.

Hum. I'll have to give Meguiar's a try. I've used their glazes, but never the polishes. I've heard #83 is really good.

How do you know which paints are single stage and which aren't? Is there some sort of list someone has compiled?

The color of the paint will transfer to your pad when polishing if the paint is single stage.
