Sponges kill soap suds?

Sponges kill soap suds?
I have some older cotton sponges that I have been using and they seem to kill the suds from any car wash soap I use. I really noticed when I bought a new microfiber sponge and the soap stays much sudsier.
Are the microfiber sponges that much better or are the old ones contaminated with something that kills the suds? What can I wash them in to clean them if they are contaminated? Now I just throw them in the wash machine with regular laundry soap.

Get a sheepskin wash mitt, the ShMITT, or a microfiber wash mitt. I absolutely love my Meguiar's microfiber mitt; more durable than anything else I have ever used (sheepskin and the shmitt will fall apart), holds a lot of suds, and is completely safe.

i have experienced this problem too. a bucket full of suds but a sponge that drips nothing but clear water when you try to wash the car. very annoying. i just get a new sponge after i've used it 5 times and use the old one on the rims. its important to use a clean sponge to minimize scratches and swirl marks.
