I work in a restaurant, the smell comes home with me and into my seats. Its nasty.

I just febreze all the cloth seating surfaces, carpets, and headliner. That seems to do the trick. I keep the carpets washed pretty well. I give a can of auto fabric cleaner and a scrub brush to one of my kitchen slaves and have them scrub and rinse the mats in the big wash sinks we have. Works like a charm and I don't get my hands dirty. lol

I sprayed Lysol into my vents and replaced the in-cabin filter when I first got the car. The mild smell never came back.

run the heater for a while, and then run the ac for a while, then turn off the ac and let the blower motor just blow on high.. let it do that for a while.. hopefully any mildew would dry up in ur ac system

You may try and take it to a car wash or something that can drop a smell bomb in the car. I guess you can pick out a flavor.

If all else fails...call around for a detailer with an ozone machine. Supposedly kills smells better and more permanently than anything else.

Acutally what I do is buy a box of Bounce Dryer sheets and put one under each seat every week when I finish washing it. It keeps the car smelling fresh.

An ozone machine is the best for smoke, can you get a very low powered one for about $30 online or pay a detailer up to $85 for a one time deal.

Two things will work perfectly for you....

One: Get some Wurth A/C & heating system cleaner. Works REALLY well at getting rid of that EXACT odor. Follow the link below...

Also, go to Target and get some Febreze Auto. I use it every time I clean my car and it really smells like that "new car" smell.

I swear its the same stuff in the big bottles, just repackaged into a smaller bottle. May as well get the regular bottle and get more for your money.

Yeah the bounce sheets rock. I have used a saftey pin to pin them up under the seats so that when the AC is set to foot vent mode it blows nicely over them.

I also recommend Wurth's odor eliminator. I have that and it leaves a very nice odor.

Any local stores that might carry this or a similar product? Ive been thinking about doing something like that to kill all the germs inside the system. Should also help with allergies.

Dont know of any local places in your area (or mine for that matter). I had to order it online, but you can go to wurth's website and they will put you in contact with your local rep that will sell to you. I contacted my local rep AFTER I paid 20 dollars a can and I could have gotten it for 15 bucks each when I bought three! Ill be doing that next time.

oh and .... www.wurthusa.com

You know what, I did the lysol method and that worked out pretty well. Can only costed me $3.50 too. Started off by spraying every vent in side my car, let it sit for about 5 mins. Then threw the AC on full while the car was running and started spraying it into the AC intake vent. Did that for a good 5 mins then let the ac run on its own for awhile. Finished it off by spraying some Meguiars Carpet cleaner solution down the intake vent to give the car a nice smell. Lysol smelled great too, but I like this stuff more.

No more meldew smell from the lower vents.

Even if you use spray you might want to clean your fan. I cleaned mine and it was filthy. Even if you have microfilters you need to remove the fan usually found under the passenger side dash. Take out the screws and then take some rubbing alcohol or bleach mixed with water and start scrapping it off. You will definately notice the difference when you turn on your air condition, heater, and or fan.

You still should check on it and make sure. The stuff probably won't kill you but you could get ill. And if you have small children it should be top priority.

No need, if you properly maintain your system. I swap the filter and clean the fans (plus run ozium thru) every 15k.

Ok, I don't understand your statement. You do clean but no need to?

Condensation always form on the fan, it's circular with straight blades and there are over twenty of them. Not even the best microfilter is going to stop bacteria or whatever the black stuff is from forming on them. The only thing that can possibly be sprayed on them to kill the blackness would be bleach.

lemme ask you- does the smell actually increase when you crack the window open or tilt the sunroof up? The reason why I ask is becuase I also had a bad odor, like humidity/urine. It turned out to be the actual door panels. When the windows were cracked it caused air to rush throught the door cavity and emit theodor. They are made of some sort of cardboard, and mine smelled. I tryed spraying the panels with lysol. Did not help. smell came back after a few weeks. I dynamated the door panels so I suffed out the smell to an extent (I have not done the rears) I would check your door panels. You could even just duct tape the panels to snuff the smell out. Im serious.

I had that in the A/C and tried to trouble shoot it for awhile untill my GF sprayed her perfume in the vents one day. I would go with a neutralizer or possibly a scent you dont mind. It has worked for me, there is just no smell now.
