looking for a good mechanic in NYC metro area
I recently bought a 95 Maxima and need a few small things done.
I live in Manhattan, looking for a mechanic in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn. Someone who knows Nissans and won't overcharge.
Recommendations?

If Jeff can do the clutch and resurface flywheel for $350 altogether, that's a great price

Urgent - need some basic repair/maintenance advice - NY City area
I brought my 1995 Maxima GXE in for NY State inspection today and there were a bunch of problems (honestly I have not done work on the car in a long time). The estimated repair bill comes to more than $1000 for a pair of new tires, replace front CV joint, new rear brakes (plus the inspection + a few small things). I've never used this shop before. The car has around 100k on it.
Looking for some advice:
- If CV boot is torn, does that mean that the axle (joint) needs to be replaced? How to tell if only boot needs to be replaced? The mechanic said the joint was dry, no grease and it looked like the boot had been torn for a long time. How to tell if the axel really needs replacing? If it is bad, how much should one front axel replacement cost?
- How much should brake job cost - new rotors/pads for rear? Is there a price difference for break job front vs. rear?
- Also, I was told struts are shot. How much should front/rear (each pair) struts cost to replace?
Thanks...Bill

Starting a new thread for those question will get a better response. sounds like your afraid that shop is suscty, why on earth wouldn't you just take it to the shop in crooklyn with the ill blue max parked out front??
Brakes are easy, axles are harder, struts are easy compared to axles, tires are expensive, you need a set or a pair?? either way something tells me that initial d will probably do a better job with a similiar labor rate, maybe less.

I wanted to start a new thread, but I don't have permission!
It's too bad that this board has to be this way. I see the reason is related to spammers, but communities like this have a lot to offer the casual user. Limiting posting to the most-active users is sort of like censorship...
In anycase, I'm going to try to do the bare minimum this time around, and find a good Maxima mechanic for the future.
