Not sure "who" told you that but look around, tons of us have done it and it works fine. Sounds like a plug was left unplugged to me.

Thank for responding dude the lights behind the buttons directly under the original info screen dont even light up. I was told that the maitinence functions run through the factory head unit and would have to tie in the oem HU for it to work

Did you press the buttons to turn them on? Sounds way to easy I know but there is only one plug and it should work fine.

I got my new head unit installed all i have on the original screen is the outside temp,and the hvac, no gas mileage,maitinence.....how can i make this work

Yes it does, just the radio info area is blank...
