Windshield Seal leaking

go to the last post and read Lightonthehill's post.... he had warned abt this a long time back...just cursing myself for not doing what he said....even tho i noticed the water leaking from the roof.

Quoting LightontheHill below
Briefly, the sunroof of the 6th gen Maxima is not watertight, and was never intended to be. The water that comes through the unsealed edges around the glass drains into the two front corners at the tops of the 'A' pillars (the columns on each side of the windshield), where they drain into little holes and run through a flexible tube all the way down, dropping the water out beneath the car, behind each front tire.

As long as the car is somewhat level, having one tube stopped up is no problem, as the water then just moves to the tube that is working. If, however, the car is parked slanted to one side, and the stopped up tube is on the downhill side, the water seeps into the cabin along the upholstery of the 'A' pillar and through the sunglasses compartment.

To check which hose is blocked, park on a level surface, open the sunroof all the way, take a flashlight, look into the two front corners between the roof and the plastic drainage apparatus a few inches below the roof, and find the two small drain holes in the plastic near the top of each 'A' pillar. Use a syringe or whatever works for you and gently place water around the holes in each corner. One will drain out thru the hose to the ground, while the other side will probably just sit there. The side that doesn't drain is stopped up.

It is possible to run something like plastic trimmer wire into the stopped up hole and determine how far down the blockage is, but everyone that has had this problem and checked found the blockage to be around the level of the bottom of the windshield.

compressed air might do the trick of unblocking the drain pipe. Try that.

thks jsmax... will try that. (on second thoughts... it might not..as the kink could be just folded/pinched plastic tube.. and i may actually blow a hole thru it or rip it?... I have to open it and see first...thks)

so no one else "in canada" has this problem??

I would think that the plastic or whatever that drain pipe is made of would be able to withstand some form of pressure from compressed air. I wouldn't hit it with 120lbs or something really high. Start low and see what happens. Other than that.... a really really really long pipe cleaner?

Ive seen this on a couple cars, i think one maxima, but also on altimas mostly.

One thing you can try is compressed air from a compressor, but make sure you grab the hose so it doesnt get pushed down. The air pressure will blow the junk out or push the air nozzle away before it ruptures the hose trust me on that one, Unless somehow it started raining JB WELD there is no way that cloggage is that strong. Even if the hose is kinked, the air will still flow through just at a much slower rate.

If you are persistant on using a mechanical tool, be careful not to use anything with sharp edges in case of puncturing the line, go to your local plumbing store, and pick up one of those hand held drain augers, make sure it fits inside the hose though first, you just fish it in there and spin it around with the handle and it will take anything out. If there is indeed a kink in there, you will have no choice but to pull out the a pillar and probably the better part of your dash board. Try pulling the glove box first, see if that helps.

IMO another reason why i believe japanese built cars are better..all the maximas weve owned, never had issues like this..the car with the most issues was my dads 02 SE. My 98 has 333K, other then normal maintenence, its been incredible..My Grandpas old 91, starts, runs, shifts better then 90% of the cars on the road, and im willing to put money on that.
