Y pipe install

I was told 210$ to install the y-pipe. Seems a bit much to me for 8 bolts. What you think?

yea depending on the muffler shop. they can be jerks. they will go by the hour, if you can find a decent shop ask around to see a place that will put new nuts on the y-pipe - exaust manifold connections. and lossen the 02 sensors... most places will just laugh, but I know Chris said he got it done for about 30 bucks i think. IMO better to do it yourself

That's wayyy too much to install one. It should only cost 50bucks or so. Most shops won't give you a price until after the job is done b/c it's impossible to know what is siezed and/or broken, but they'll give you a rough ballpark.

which shop quoted you that? Sell it to me and I'll get it installed for less.
Try park muffler. Should be cheaper. Or economy muffler or thrifty I think they are called. Located on 156 street and ~114 ave.

That was a local shop out here in the Grove. I will look around more. I may poke my head under again this week end. If I can get the 2 hidden bolts out then I will do it. Not too worried about the O2 sensors. Can impact those off.

Anyone have NAPA part #s for the gaskets?

Will see about selling the stock one. If the wife likes the change then I will. I was trying to find the fellow on the board that buys up the Cats...

If she doesnot like the change. Put me down as sold. I will take it from you no questions.
Use some pb blaster and let it soak over a few hours. Those O2 sensors are known for being rusted in there.

I second that. If that is Edmonton, give me a phone number. I seem to be having issues finding the gaskets for my 99. Dealer said nope. CT is useless these days. Part Source guy had no clue, Napa had some but not sure if we were talking the same part.

the main problem is that those few bolts bust as soon as you stick some torque on them. The "Blots" are studs and then they need to be air chisled out. And then there is that friggen 02 sensor. I would just rather pay someone to do it as that badboy is usually welded right in there from the heat and moisture that can accumulate in that area. New nuts and bolts can be used as replacements, but scott is having problems locating the gaskets. Hopefully by tomorrow that will be resolved. see the above post.

What's the deal with the EGR Flare tube. At the bottom, is it supposed to be torqued with a crows foot? Mine felt loose and i'm wondering if this could me the source of an exhaust leak that used to go into the cabin.

I've also been having the WORST time trying to locate the 2nd coolant drain bolt....see post in 3rd Gen forum. Do you know where it is?

How much is the header pipe

Can you tell me about this air chisel? What is the technique used to remove the lodged studs?

it's a tool that hooks up to your air compressor and is designed to punch out studs. It has various attachments to do different things.
it's really called an Air hammer and it can be found here.
hope that helps.

you basically hit the busted stud with the pointy end of the air hammer attachments and it should work its way out. backs out the stud from the thread side.
