Going to my first autox event and need a few tips as to tire pressures. I'm running illuminas, going to set at 4f 5r. I noticed a lot of guys have very high tire pressures, just wondering how that works? I thought the car would slide too much if the tires are hard. I also have rsb, fstb, toyo t1r's 225 on stock rims. 255ish fwhp.

increase the tire pressure to reduce tire rollovers. usually set the rears higher than the front say i dunno, 40 psi front, 42+ in the rear.
can always chalk your tires to see how much, if you are rolling over

oops, that's a major typo. stock size 225/50/17's. I don't think a 255 would fit on a 7" wide rim. Edited the original post. Must have been thinking too far ahead and put whp number in the tire size. LOL.

Always start with higher front pressures say 40-50lbs, chalk em for rollover and drop pressures say 4lbs each run til you start chewing into the outer sidewall markers. Then go back up a bit if needed. Novice drivers tends to push tires a tad harder then vets.
Well, I didn't make it out a few weeks ago because my tranny synchros were toast. So I got my new 06mt installed with flywheel and stage 1 clutch and went out today. Raced with the local honda acura club. My best time was 63.1 seconds, the fastest in the class they put me in was in the 58-59 range. So I am pretty happy with that considering I am NA with street tires, and most of the cars in my class had turbos and r compound tires and half the weight.
