**(Mods please move if its in wrong forum. I chose to post here assuming that the AutoX/ Road Course folks would be the best to ask about racing seats)**
So, my fellow Florida man absoundlab put in some racing seats on his car and Im drooling all over it. http://forums.maxima.org/showpost.ph...&postcount=235 . I love my black leather interior, but I must, around turns, those seats dont hold my skinny a$s worth anything lol. Need something that actually has bolters, like STOCK new Acura TL seats, RSX seats to name a few. I <3 those seats. I know Kevlo mounted RSX seats on his car but he had to do alot of weld work to get them to fit in, and I just cant afford the downtime as this is my DD. So Im going to get me those same seats that absoundlab got.
The issue is, on ebay, I do not see any brackets being sold for 4th gens. All the Maxima brackets they have out there are for 5th gens.
So with that being said, I know some of you are rocking universal racing seats on your 4th gens. Could you please point me to where I could get a set of brackets for my car?
ALSO, how much different are 5th gen brackets from 4th gen brackets (I dont have any 5th gens to look at any time soon, so I'll just ask)? Because if they're closely designed, I'll just get the 5th gen brackets and do the necessary rigging to make them work no problem.
Thank j00!!!!!

I looooooooove my Corbeaus.... But i do have to say I had to dremel out the holes for the bolts on the brackets a little bit even though they were supposed to be for a 4th gen straight from Corbeau.. thats my only complaint. I will never go back to stock seats.
Sorry, interior is a bit dirty here....

I have installed Corbeau's in a few Hondas, and few other brands in other vehicles and come across problems with the height of the seat being affected? (generally being quite a bit higher than stock). Especially bad on MR2's I've found out.
Has anyone run into a similar issue with there Maxima after installing aftermarket seats/brackets?

I did have this exact issue.. i sit waaaay lower in the Corbeaus but luckily im 6'3" so it wasnt that big a deal.. however with the Corbeau brackets the seat really doesnt move forward very far, again being tall I dont have an issue but anyone under 6 ft might not be able to fully depress a clutch..

Corbeau sells extender bars to move the seats up another 4" or so if you're too far back. That combined with a bunch of washers gave me a good position for my racing.
That said, I've got a spare D1137T passenger seat bracket for sale. $75 incl ship to whomever wants.
I've found some universal seat brackets on http://www.andysautosport.com and if you click on your year Max and then clcik seat brackets, the Sparco part#491 will work. However, you have to take out your old brackets and install these in the floor.
Oh wow, I had forgotten about this thread since I made it so long ago. I like how it stayed in the racing seat subject. I on the other hand couldnt pass up on this deal from a friend....
Any questions regarding that, please post them on that thread, so as to keep this one on the racing seat subject. I must say I am happy with my decision for these seats. The stock seats are no good for long trips, no good for lateral support. These Z seats are much more supportive, more comfortable, and thus MUCH better for the long trips.

Wizard your whole interior is immaculate. I drool on it, lol. That thread is very informative about the Corbeau brakets. I had head of that problem with them years ago. I figured it would have been fixed by now.

Kind of an old thread but im curious if anyone has installed a racing seat that takes a 5 or 6 point harness in a Maxima? It would have to be reclinable and slide back and fourth for adjustment. So not a true fixed racing seat but something that would be suitable for the street, HPDEs, and time attacks. Also I would like to have it match the interior.
I need to have at least a 5 point SFI aprroved harness for some of the timed events I want to get into. Not to mention an equal setup for me and the instructors.
So far the only seat I've found that meets all my requirements and then some are the Recaro Black Vinyl / Black Suede Speed 5s, but at $900 each there has to be a more affordable option. I saw and sat in these at HMS motorsports show room and have wanted them since.
I'm about 80% to pull the trigger on the Recaros sometime this Spring. However I am open to suggestions especially since the quote they gave me will be around $2500 for seats/brackets, 5 point harnesses, and install at HMS.

Your options are very slim for a reclinable seat that is SFI/FIA approved for racing. Many require a seat back support as well, but that's only once you get to classes that require a roll cage.
Honestly, I'd suggest you get a set of fixed bucket seats (like Kirkeys) and make a bracket to mount them to the floor. Design it so that it's fairly quick and easy to swap out (seats are just 4 bolts!), and then just use that seat for events only. use the factory couch seat for DD use.
Also keep in mind that almost all 5/6 pt harnesses are not DOT legal, so you shouldn't drive with them on the street. Leave the stock belts in and use those daily, then the harnesses for events- just like the seats.
You may want to get clip-in harnesses and mount some eyes in the car to mount them to save you some time.
Having a dual-purpose car gets to be very gray legally when you start doing this much to it. Pay attention to what you buy and what you plan to do... You may find yourself taking a very different path before it's all said and done.

The seat doesn't have to be SFI approved just the 5 point harness for 5 years. IIRC No adjustable seats are approved for real racing just fixed ones.
The Recaros work with a standard OEM 3 point or 4/5 point racing harnesses and I believe they are DOT/FMVSS approved. I would leave the OEM belts in the car and just leave the Recaros in, which are better looking IMO. I will just remove the 5 pointers when not needed or just tuck them away like I currently do with my 4 point harness. The stock seats don't work for me to well and the Recaros seem to have more support all over the place. Also when im done with this car I can take those seats and 5 points to my next money pit project car.
I agree with the dual purpse thing, as this car is approaching the limit of what Mass will allow for a legal street car.
