UN-registering at an autoX SUCKS.

I had to pull a ton of strings to get registered for today's event, since my PayPal is all screwed up from some check fraud (Thanks, Nigerians!), and finally got it all squared away. Paid my $35, go over to the pit, where BEJAY1 is, as he offered me to use his Hoosiers for the event.

First wheel, the lug stud gets completely stripped, and there's NO threads left on it... they just sheared off. Pensive if they would even let me pass tech with 4 out of 5 lugs, the 2nd wheel was the exact same story.

That's a walk of shame, when you have to go up to the registration, timing, course assignment, tech, and the safety stewards, none of whom are anywhere NEAR each other, and tell them, "I'm not gonna pass tech. I need to un-register. Both wheels I tried to swap out race rubber with, stripped a lug stud. I can't run today."

COULD I have raced? Maybe. SHOULD I have raced? Maybe. But WOULD I have raced? Probably not. The last thing I need is to be the next guy on YouTube, and every automotive forum, posted as "watch this Maxima at autoX crash because he only has 4 lugs!" Not worth it.

It is what it is. C'est la vie.

I just spent $466 getting the Crankshaft Position Sensor replaced too, so that I would be ready for the event in time. Dammit.

Never tried to take off a cross threaded lugnut? It's really fun without an impact, even with they can take a while sometimes. Best is when they come off on an angle, making the gun swerve back and forth, leaving the stud basically sharpened to a point. Rather cool, can't seem to find any pics on google...

God I hated working at Sears.

Sorry things didn't work out Evan. I really wanted you to run too. Like you said it's better to walk from bad situation than have a major problem. There's another event there in 2 weeks if you can make it and the tire offer stands.

Yesterday was a humbling experience as it was a divisional with lots of states and trailers showing up. The hot sun took it's toll on 2hr work shifts as we became beef jerky out on course. You would've been no match for that Datsun running EP. I wasn't even a blip on the radar for Jason Frank in STS who dropped the hammer and took #1 on index for the day.

I always carry 3 or 4 spare lugs to events. I've never had to use them, but we've used them on a couple other maximas....
