ive got 3sets of rims/tires. which to use

im planning on doing a lil oval racing in the next few weeks, local z/nissan meet. id like to run as best i can but im not sure which rim/tires i should use.

options are
17lb enkie rp01s 17x8with 255/40/17 dunlops, about 75% tread left
18lbish enkie rsvs 17x7.5 with 235/45/17 nitto 555, not the drag tires the street tire, about 95% tread left
stock 18inch 350z 6spokes with 225/245/45/18 potenzas, about 95%tread left

im pretty sure it noone in theire right mind would run the 18 z's but i figure id throw them out there.

my suspension setup is basiclly jic a1's hopefully with a2 rear springs by event time, with all es bushings progress rsb, f&rstbs welded sfc's and stictch welded frame. also new balljoints tie rods, lcas and solid mm's

brakes are ss lines hawk pads and rtp rotors, 12.6 fronts and stock calipers, hopefully my quad pistons by race time. new fuild too

other thing, hotshot headers, vis hood, id trunk. not that any of that matters, but ya never know

thanks all

oval or road course racing?

what kind of dunlops or pretendas?
there are about 30 different types of dunlops that can fit on your car- anything from snow tires to race slicks. same thing with the potenza line.

Depending on what sort of dunlops they are, I'd lean towards the nittos mainly because the tire/wheel width combo will make for more crisp handling. A 255/40 on an 8J rim is pushing it width-wise, and you'll probably notice that out on the track as when the tire deforms not all the tread will be contacting the road. I also wouldn't run a staggered setup at the track unless it's reverse-staggered e.g. wider in front.

If your car is lowered you won't be able to put anything bigger than a 235 with out rolling the fenders.

I've seen 275s on a 5th gen without rolling the fenders. just have to have the perfect offset.

Yeah they will fit if you beat the crap out of the inner fenders, and you don't turn and you put on a KING KONG Kit, rolling on some 22"s!

Actually the car was running Eibachs and KYBs with 18x8" wheels. Nothing done to the fenders except trimming the small tab where the rear bumper meets the sheet metal. otherwise it was 100% stock underneath.

Very interesting. Throw a pic up next time you see it. Those things have got to be huge.
