Racing in the Rain at NHIS

Had a fun track day at New Hampshire International. It was a SCDA sponsered driver's event and it POURED today. Some people with more common sense and deeper pockets ($235 to run, rain or shine no refunds) backed out. Im taking any seat time to gain experience so I decided to run. I know we complain about understeer but I gotta say it kept me inline. The big old Maxima boat just kept on sailing through rough seas.

Got to pass alot of RWD cars in my group, but the EVOs, STIs, and AWD 911s had a field day today (what rain? ). Identical pair of S2000s were the spin twins of the day, saw one coming up on me and was going to give him the point by but then I see spinning xenons as he just managed to save it from the wall. Well nobody is perfect. I almost lost the car on the first session when I locked the wheels up, forgot that the ABS is broken. There were INCHES of track left and I somehow managed to save it at the last second.

Professional pics of my car racing will be up tomorrow. Much to my embarassment the whole lock up sequence was photographed. It will be a good lesson on what NOT to do in the rain...

I saw the previews, they were beyond funny. You can almost see me saying OH SH!T...

I was right in front of the photographer. The flag guys ditched the station and got behind the tires, but the photographer stayed and got it.

great pics, haha. I was kind of hoping for some rain at this weekend's autocross so Gabe would be screwed on his new 710s. No such luck.

That could have been ugly if you had put that left front into that mudpit

Why did you park your car more than one foot away from the side of the road?

Forget the cameraman I was checking my draws after this one.

I had to upload the pics and they lost some resolution, but you can still see the look of fear on my face.

Not all went ok, got a piece of wire in the sidewall on the last lap or on the way home. They don't make the Toyo T1-S anymore so now I gotta look for another set of track tires for next season. Looks like im going with 17 x 9 5Zigen Fn01r-c rims with some 255/40/17 Falken Azenias. Id get some Nitto NT-01s if they made those available for sale, there still working on it.

Bronze

Hyperblack

Was going to get the flat black but met an EVO owner at this track event and he had flat black 5Zigens. The paint was lame looking and the paint loves to chip off these things. However you can just hit it with some flat black spray paint.

the hyperblack chips pretty easy too. on mine, it's at least 5 layers of powdercoat. it's chipped off horribly around the center caps where you slide them on the tire balancing machines, as well as from lots of rock dings on the spokes and rim too.

but again, they're track wheels.. don't worry about it.

Those are some great pics... unbelievable how close you were to the edge on that last pic. Not really inches though... more like a foot... just kidding...
