5th gen NON-BOSE head unit problem

Through searches i was able to find tons of info on the Bose unit, but not the lower grade/non-bose model

Car is an 03 SE with the standard single CD/tape deck radio -

Problem is the text display on the deck will intermittently go out but the audio still plays, then soon after the audio will cut out. Everything will come back on at random and then go out again, sometimes in 5 minues, sometimes in an hour or more - any solutions? Probably worth just replacing it i assume

Id like to just get another of the same deck, just plug it in and go... downside is that a used unit may eventually experience the same problem i have with the current unit

Theres the option of going aftermarket but then id have to get the dash kit (GXE/Scoshe) and the wiring harness and worry about the steering wheel controls working or not

This isnt my car so im looking for the most painless solution (if it was mine id upgrade everything)

any suggestions/thoughts - thanks folks!

most definitely go aftermarket bro unless u can find the same stereo mad cheap some wheres. its not expensive at all dash kit $20 antenna adapter $5-8 wiring harness $5-15. to me its well worth doing to avoid the same problem happening down the road. im almost positive they make a kit to utilize the wheel controls

Go aftermarket. You're 100% right, a replacement unit will go bad down the road.

Depending on the aftermarket unit you purchase, there ARE steering wheel interface modules that will work flawlessly. They are made by PAC and the model # starts with SWI-(brand specific). For example, Pioneer units need the PAC SWI-PS.
