Factory Security

On my 95 I know when I shut and lock all doors, hood, and trunk the security light is supposed to stay solid for 30 seconds to let you know the system is in the arming stage. After that it is supposed to blink normally. Well, mine blinks all the time no matter what when the car is off. Is there a way to trouble shoot the bcm or whatever module controls the system. Thanks in advance.

not all cars do it that way, Im not even certain ours do, but the easiest way to check the stock alarm is to:

1. open a door, roll the window all the way down
2. shut the door, make sure all other doors and trunk and hood are closed
3. lock the car with the fob
4. wait 1 minute
5. reach in the opened window and unlock the door, open the door. The alarm should go off
6. try it with the trunk button too, instead of the door latch

check for a fuse, maybe its missing or blown. schem should be on the back of the fuse lid, also look in the engine bay fuse block, not certain where it is..

do your locks work from the fob?

Yes sir they do. Every function works except for the physical arming of the system. I can hold the lock button and make it go off but it will not arm on its own. Is there anyway to troubleshoot it?

Hmmm.. Its very odd. Did you check all your fuses?

The horn just blaring when you hold lock on a car without an alarm is called the panic function. Just about every car with a fob, alarm or not, has this feature.

That said, the horn blares when you hold lock, and the car won't go off when you unlock it while 'armed'. This points to a car WITHOUT a factory alarm, but I would guess all 4th gen maximas came with an alarm from the factory. If you can confirm this (ALL 4th gens came with alarm, i thought they did), it seems something might be wrong with your ecu.

The easier fix would be to just add a cheap alarm if you're that worried. It sucks, but at least you'll have peace of mind.

Well, just came up with an idea. If you have a bad hood pin, or even 1 bad door pin, where the car thinks the door or hood is open, it will NOT arm.

So, to check door pins, turn the car on, open each door 1 by 1, hold the pin and see if the dome light goes out. As for hood pin, make certain the switch functions properly in the engine bay area. Id say test it with a test light or DMM but im guessing you don't have one?
