Anyone Figure out what's the best 8" Bose Sub Replacement
Ok, bare with me this is my first thread but been searching the forums awhile and I can't come to an conclusion and its driving me First finding a 8" Free Air/Infinite Baffle sub is hard enough but finding one that can produce 30hz and handle atleast 150w rms seems to be impossible. Below is all I can find but still not what I want
1.JL Audio ZR800-CW(classifed as midbass,expensive)
2.JL Audio 8IB4(rare as hell)
3.Pioneer TS-SW841D(only can handle 100w)
4.Pioneer TS-W203F(also extremely hard 2 find)
????
2.JL Audio 8IB4(rare as hell)
3.Pioneer TS-SW841D(only can handle 100w)
4.Pioneer TS-W203F(also extremely hard 2 find)
????
Seems like Im fighting a losing battle might just have to keep the bose and add some Rca's and some deading for the rattle and call it a day.If anyone has sucessful replaced the 8 and got some decent thump out of it let me know.

Here is the home page:

Here is a link to the OA10:

If you have any other questions, shoot.
If you want impressions of the driver, other than mine, you can contact SC2k1.

Another option I seem to always neglect to mention is, Fi can easily modify the ssd to operate IB. I have done a pair of 10" IB ssd's in a G35coupe. I will find the pics if you are interested in going that route.

Here. These are the Fi IB ssd's with Havoc dust caps. This style dust cap was used at the customers request b/c the front of the driver would be visible. But the one you would order would come with the standard FI logo dust cap. These are pics before the install was finished. But you get the idea.

I check DLS site and seen they also have the OA8 that seems to fit my needs to the T so think I will go with that. Also found this review from nismos14
http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/...n-hx2-cvr.html
So I think I have my setup: 2 sets of 6.5 kappa perfects componets, the OA8 in the rear and the G4500 feeding the componets a conservative 80w each and smaller amp giving 150-200w for the sub. Hopefully both amps can fit on the back seat and Ill have a decent setup and full trunk space.

Yeah ask around or you can try looking on the web. I found the DLS OA8 on a couple sites for round about 100 bucks shipped. So the OA10D shouldn't be anymore than $150-$200 if that

Be weary of fakes. I am not saying the sites you are looking at carry fakes, but there are more out there than you can imagine.

Don=Pearl96Max=6spdcoupe, just so you know.

Speaking of though quick question for the audio guru's might be dumb but the OA8's are 8ohm's I believe. So can I use any amp? and if so would it be less than the rated wattage example: @ 4ohms = 250watts so would 8ohms = 125??

subs run free air generally need less power to reach full excursion.
8 ohm speakers will see half power, but it's not just that simple. sensitivity also comes into play as to how loud the sub will actually be.

Yeah i just need a little extra thump to go with my sets of componets and don't feel like doing any custom work so sticking with an 8. Just glad to find out that it's alot of options out there. thanks again filtor & nismos

true but don't IB have poor low-frequency bass and it will not be very accurate or defined. but i suppose for the average person that's fine.

From: http://www.termpro.com/articles/subwoof.html
"Unfortunately, there are several disadvantages to the infinite baffle. When a speaker is mounted in an enclosure, the air inside the enclosure acts like a spring against the speaker cone, and he resulting buildup in pressure provides mechanical damping and prevents excessive cone movement. But an infinite-baffle installation does not use an enclosure, so the mechanical damping is poor, resulting in "hang-over" and lack of definition. The power handling of the speaker will also be compromised since the infinite baffle provides very little control over cone excursion."
is term pro not a good source for information?
also i googled and just found this:
From:http://www.mobileinformationlabs.com...e-baffel_1.htm
"Disadvantages of this design are difficulty (sometimes extreme) in completely isolating the two sides of the cone from each other, and slightly less accurate sound reproduction."
granted they could be wrong but is there a finite answer on this subject?

I've liked the sound I got from my IB enclosures more than boxed setups. The accuracy in every instance was great, I never suffered a loss in that department. I've also had no issues with cancellation and my 6 or o IB setups have all had some anomolies as far as power handling goes.
Some handled rated power + some handled rated power, some handle way less.
