Xplode 600w 2 channel AMP, Alpine Type-R 10" subs, Alpine CDA-9847

Car came with:

Sony Xplod 2/1 Channel 600w

Alpine Type r 10" sub (not actual car)

-Alpine CDR 9847

only problem is...i've never had a amp or a sub and i dont know how to configure it so 1) i dont blow it up, 2) it sounds good and balanced.

Advice?

Also, the HU has a Ipod connector...problem is I dont have an Ipod. I have a mp3 but it uses the aux port(headphones)...is there a way to switch them? The ipod connector goes from my glove box to the back of the HU inside the dashboard. Im guessing i should open her up and take a look.

Do i need to run the one of the 2 unused Right/left ports to the amp and then to my Mp3 player? I tried using the mp3 player just on the head unit (i have a right/left/red/white wire ) but the sound was faint, even on full blast.

How does this work? Do i need another adapter?

I have this

NOTE* Amp is NOT powered by head unit. I think they're spliced and run to the POS battery terminal.

From what I know, (i'm a noob on this stuff too but been around it for years, just don't know if its right or wrong), I can take a stab at it. Most amps are connected to the battery directly. I don't know if this will affect the amp though. Also, most radios have a remote on wire that connects to the amplifier. That will turn the amp on when the radio is on.

Looks good to me though. But is that amp bridgeable? You can bridge that amp to boost that sub. I hope I know what I'm talking about. I'm doing my own system also so this is a learning experience for me too.
