Fiberglassing 2 10's into rear deck

Well after thinking about the IB setup, I have decided to fiberglass 2 10's in the rear deck. I am looking for the writeup for the hood struts for the trunk. The beams are gonna get in the way. I am starting on this this weekend, so I'll have plenty of pics on the way.

This will be my second attempt at doing a sub box. THe first didn't go over very well. I tried to put 3 12's in the spare tire hole. Needless to say it was a total disaster.

I was suppose to do a write up for the trunk struts but got lazy and still am lazy. If you want I have plenty of pics I can send you. The trunk struts are one of the best mods I have done!

Hey yeah that was me

FYI for two tens you don't need to glass if you don't want to. I had 2 12's and there was no need for more than the board(s) to bolt the sub and car to. Now the 15's need to be glassed in to hang from the deck. That'll be in soon....

I was gonna fiberglass it to make a ported box. I thought about the IB setup, but I want really good bass. I didn't know if I could get good boomy bass from an IB setup.

If you want boomy, stick with the ported

Some of us disagree on what "good" bass is to us, but "boomy" isn't how I want to describe the sound of my bass. Sounds like you want lotsa output in the middle/low bass range..ported is what you want...

What kind of bass would I get from an IB setup? I might have been stretching it a little when I said boomy bass. I just want some nice lows. I'm not looking to be heard blocks away.

Depending on the Driver you should end up with some very nice, acurate lows with punchy higher octaves as well, I have only heard an IB setup, yet to actually have one. That will be taken care of very soon though, going IB with 2 IDQ 12s...

I was looking to get some struts on ebay because they would probably be easier, but I cant find them anywhere. Do they have a more common name than struts or gas shocks?

Guys, just go to a good auto supply store.

Don't do ebay...what a pain in the butt. They may not have been happy with me, but in my initial trial and error, I went through a few that didn't work, went back to teh store with my receipt, and exchanged.....

There's no specific size, as there's different places you can mount them, thus different sizes.

You need to find places that you can mount the struts where it'll be a relatively straight shot for them to open and close. In mine, I used the protrusion around the center cutthrough. All you do then is open up trunk all the way and get a good measurement from mounting point to mounting point when opened, then do the same when closed....

You then need a shock that goes as long as you need for trunk to open (or it can extend an extra 1/2 inch or so) and also gets as small as you need for trunk to close.

If anyones around Md, lemme know...having done it once, it wouldn't take long to duplicate....

What about trying 2 or 3 8" subs with a small slot ported box mounted hanging from the back deck?

I made a fiberglass box that sits in the left corner of the car for 2 12s. Its not sanded and finished yet. Yes I know, car and trunk is dirty, I'm too busy to do much. 500 projects going at the same time. Click to enlarge.

That's exactly what I was gonna do. A ported box hanging from the rear deck. I was going to use two aeroports. I never even thought about 3 8's that might be kind of cool.

Only thing is playing around with the subs impedence to make it equal 4, 2 or 1 ohm then a amp to match whatever impedence you end up with.

That's not that difficult. This isn't my first time at the rodeo.
