Upgrade?

Hey guys,

I've been going back-and-forth for the past month about upgrading to an Eclipse HU and making some other upgrades to my system. I was talking to Don a few weeks ago about pricing and features on the 8445, 8455, and the new 5000. But now I'm thinking more along the lines of the 7000.

My current setup:

Alpine 9835
Front: Rainbow SLC 265.02
Rear: Rainbow SL 165
(both powered by ARC KAR 400.4)
Subs: (2) 10" ARC 10D2
(poweredy by ARC KAR 1000.2T)

Currently, I'm running the components passive, but I was wondering if it's feasible to run these components in an active setup? (which I've never had experience with before) If it is, then I'm probably going to lean towards the 7000.

From looking around on Ebay, I know I can make at least $300 for the 9835 as it's in very-near perfect condition (typical small scratches on faceplate).

I don't konw what to do, somebody please offer some insight...

Yeah, but aren't Profi's substantially higher up than what I have (Sound Line)?

Haha, thanks for the jab.

I just talked to my dad. He's agreed to pay for part of the HU for my birthday (which was actually two weeks ago now), so now I've just got to see when Don can get me one. I'm giong to keep the Alpine around for a few weeks at least to make sure I like the Eclipse, but I'm fairly confident I won't have any second thoughts.

Active, if you can still give the front comps appropriate power and already have dampening done and if well tuned, should be a good and very noticeable upgrade. The difference IMO is like night and day. The Eclipse head units do a great job of giving you that option with decent tuning capabilities at a decent price.

Actually, I've had some E-Dead v1SE sitting around for almost a year now waiting to be installed. I think I'm finally going to do it next week when I'm home. I have 40 sq. ft, so that should be enough for the front doors at least.

I'm also hopefully going to make (or buy if they're cheap and available) some MDF mounts for my mids and rear coaxes. Right now I still have them mounted in the modified plastic ring from the stock speakers. I know I'm losing bass there because the plastic rings are twisted and do not sit flush on the door panel.

40sqft is good enough for all 4 doors.

Yeah, it would be, but I made a mistake: it's only 20 sq. ft.

(Like I said, it's been sitting for a while.)
