Anyone have an old box laying around?

Alright So I am starting cheap. (trying to catch the audiophile bug on a budget)

I grabbed a RF P112S4 for 45 dollars at best buy, and need a box for it. Recommended is 1.25 Sealed, 1.75 ported. I was wondering if anyone here has a box laying around that they were going to junk, and if so, if i could possibly get my hands on it!

Also, I read that if the box is tuned correctly, you can run more than the rated RMS power. There any truth behind that? And if so, what amplifier would you recommend I use?

Thanks in advance

Well if you were a little closer to me, I have a single sealed 12" Audio Enhancer Box just sitting in my garage. I'm thinking of getting a nice Sound Splinter sub or something to go with my amp for now. Only really want 1 subwoofer so that will leave me with a extra box.

I have a decent quality 1.1 cu. ft. sealed box that is brand new in excellent condition but you'd have to pay shipping. I'ts 5/8" MDF not 3/4". It's carpeted (black), has large flat rubber feet, a terminal cup, and a strap type handle on top. It's a trapezoid shape. PM me with an offer if you're interested but I'm sure shipping won't be real cheap.

That's one hell of a non-standard box.

rubber feet?

if you run the sub past it's rated power, it will fail thermally. the voice coil(s) can only take so much power before heating up like the metal wires inside a toaster. so a sub's power handling isn't limitless, no matter how well tuned your system is.

Hey don't knock it, it's not that bad! I got it dirt cheap because a customer left it at a shop without paying. The feet and strap were inexpensive add ons I put on it when I thought I might have a use for it in my second car. The build quality is quite good and it looks nice. I just probably won't end up using it myself is all.

In a ported box there's a possibility that you can reach those thermal limits quicker than in a sealed box, a sealed box will handle the full power but of course careful setting of the gains is a must.

I see. So I think I will stick with recommendations, and run 150 watts RMS. Anybody have a good amplifier suggestion for that? 150x1 @ 4 ohms?

meh, quality over quantity. my old single brahma 12 can set off alarms if i wanted to, but i refrained in doing so. that's just annoying to other people around you...
