Stereo Volume Fading In And Out...why???

I recently swapped my Pioneer P7400-MP head unit out for the Pioneer P7700-MP and have noticed that on some songs that I play through the CD player that the volume fades in and out on its own. I'm purchasing music from online sources (RealPlayer) primarily and I'm not sure if this is an electrical thing or if it has to do with where I'm getting my music from, or even down to the type of disks I burn music on. I noticed today that it doesn't happen on every song that I've downloaded, and I have a bunch of songs from different artists on one burnt disk and I don't know what to make of it. Also, is there a program that I can download to convert music files to mp-3 files, or is this unnecessary?

As always, your help and advice are greatly appreciated

You can check the frequency of your mp3s or audio files. If songs are 128kps or 160 they seem to sound good in my 7700. When they are different frequencies they can be very quiet or loud compared to the norm. Dont know if it helps or not.

Check to see if your HU has the ASL feature engaged. This is the Automatic Sound Levelizer that some Pioneer units have. It adjusts the volume according to noise level in the car, that way you do not have to adjust the volume as much.

@psu711 and 1996blackmax...

Good to see I'm not the only one with the 7700

I have the ASL set to mid-level right now. What seemed to help was the compression/bmx setting - I have it set at BMX 2 right now, and the cycling doesn't seem to be as noticeable. I'm glad that it seems to be the source of the music instead of something electrical - I thought it might have been a sign that the alternator is heading south on me, although I like the battery voltage indicator that the 7700 has. I just wonder how accurate it really is...

Thanks for the advice, guys! I'll let you know how things develop.

BTW - Do you guys have any advice for the poor AM reception? It's driving me crazy, and it's only going to get worse when basketball season starts...
