Alternator Upgrading

Ok guys, I am upgrading the system I put in not even a month ago.

I am currently running:

Memphis Baby Belle 5 Channel Amp (400 x 1 and 55 x 4)
Pioneer 12" DVD Subs
Memphis Audio oversized 6.5's (Rear)
Ample Audio 6.5" Components (The old style, before they sold out)
Pioneer Premeire Head Unit (Dual Motorized Faces)

I am upgrading my subs and amp. I bought a Memphis BIG Belle (1100 x 1 and 75 x 4) and 2 Kicker 12" L7 DVC subs. I am pretty happy with all my seperates, they are hella loud and very clean, so they are staying, as well as the head unit.

I also bought a Mobil Spec alternator. It is an OEM drop in and is rated at about 200 amps.

Heres my question, are Maximas (1997 to be exact) amperage sensitive? I know some Audi;'s that have had alternator upgrades done were kinda funny about it.

Does anyone have an upgraded alternator? Just wanna make sure it'll go smooth. I am also gonna be replacing me 4 gauge with 1/0 wiring, adding a 5 farad cap and replacing the OE battery with a yellow top.

I am excited, it hits REAL HARD now, and is clean. Wait till I get the L7's in!

I don't think you should have any problems with the alt upgrade. I think a couple of people on the .ORG have done this with no problems. BTW...nice amp!

An upgrade to 1/0 will be quite nessecary. Also look into upgrading the big 3. With an Optima and new alternator a cap will not be nessecary. Make sure you are properly fused @ 200A or else run the risk of a fire.

Yeah not running 1/0 was not an option. Too much current not too.

When you say properly fuse at 200A, you mean on the 1/0 line going back to the amp correct?

You are correct about the cap. I had one leftover and think I will not run it. The Belle has 1/0 inputs, so you know it wants some serious juice!

After some serious consideration I think I am going to leave the setup as is. It hits pretty dam hard now as it is. I don't feel like spending all the extra loot. I already have a buyer for my stuff I just bought, and I got what I paid for it, so nothing lost. I think I am going to put the subs I have now into a ported box to get some more umph out of them, add a cap, and redo the engine grounds and be done with it. If it were my car I'd go nutty on it, but it is the wifes whip and we really only drive it 2 days outta the week anyways.

I should keep the Big Belle and drop that beast in my Civic hatch....

Another thing that you should do is test the grounds - you should not be seeing anything greater than 0.5-Ohms return resistance through the line. If you are, then make sure you verify the cleanliness of the contact points, as well as if they are secure.
