Hardwiring a Passport 8500 X50, power wire Q's

My girlfriend just got me one and i wanted to hardwire it to my car. I already have one hardwired but it uses the typical power plug. The X50, as many may already know, uses a telephone jack. It has 4 slots, im thinking power, ground and the other 2 slots for the mute button.

Well i wanted to know if I could just use an ordinary telephone jack and pull 2 of the wires and connect them to a power source and ground. It sounds like it should work without any problems but i dont know which wire is for power and which wire is for the ground. Any one have any ideas? I looked into the 'kit' that they have to offer, but i really dont have any use for the extra 'mute' button and the radar would only be 6 inches away from the power source.

Yeah sure. It looks like it could work. There are a few guys on here that did use a telephone cord to hardwire the detector. Cut one end off and hook up the wires. You may want to put an inline fuse for this just in case the detector blows a fuse. Or you may want to buy the wire for the install from Escort. Its only a few bucks and it comes with the inline fuse with it. Not a bad buy. Let me know how it goes.
