Where is the best place to ground in the trunk?

Is there a "good" spot for through the firewall?

try pulling the panel off of the inside of the truck. You should be able to find a bolt that bolts into the inside of the rear quarter somewhere(usually holding something like the power antenna or a relay). Just make sure you sand down the paint around it, so you get a good metal to metal contact.
