Are RWD and FWD valve covers the same?

Anyone know? I am hoping to use the revised 04-06 Maxima Valve cover on my G35 due to the common spark plug gasket failure. Can't find a clear answer.

It appears that the only difference is the oil filler neck, and the hose barbs for the front to rear valve cover breather hose.

Filler caps can be swapped over they are just threaded with an oring. Looks like the location and angle is identical! I will try to install a FWD one on my car when I get to that point in the engine build (no known timeframe )

I was sad to hear AARON left Nissan Unlimited, so I'm not sure where I'll get the valve covers from, it was the 04/05/06 Maxima valve covers that were the updated style and fit the 02/03 Maxima, right? So I should be able to use the 04/05/06 one?

the neck is different not the cap, and its WAY different. I would imagine the maxima rear cover will work without any issue, while the front cover I dont think works on the RWD because of the intake manifold location. If it does fit under the manifold, you would have to take the intake manifold off to fill oil. The maxima cap is basically flat on the valve cover, while the RWD has a couple inch long neck to reach out past the edge of the intake manifold. Only way I could imagine the FWD one working is if you get a filler cap that is very short and basically no height above the threaded portion.

Tuner, New 6th gen valve covers (04-08) can be had for around $30 at the dealership.

Yeah, the first image I used is misleading for the RWD valve covers.

Yah I have 2 RWD engines in my back room so I just cross checked

Also Gemner, the oil cap is on the same valve cover. Bank 2. Bank 2 is the front on a FWD, and the Driver side on a RWD. I have no issues using a funnel, the stock setup kind of sucks anyways on the RWD cover.

I have very few doubts about this, I'm confident I can make this work without much issue. I have a pair on order, I'll post back results. Cost here in Canada is about double even with my discount, so after tax, if it works, it'll be $120. The 350/G35 covers cost $300ish EACH though. So this is certainly worth it!

ya know ive thought about this for a long time, and always thought the RWD guys surely would of tried the cheap fwd covers by now.

if you are the first rwd guy to try fwd valve covers and they work, im literally going to laugh for months. 300each or 30 each.

Im well aware, I have a RWD cover on mine since I never took it off after switching back from the RWD intake manifold. Its not the funnel I would worry about, but being able to actually get the cap off in the first place. That is why I suggested finding a cap that is very short since it would take less space to get it out.

edit: finally found it. Nismo3112 used the FWD valve covers with a RWD manifold. Had to shave part of the manifold and also cut down the filler cap. http://forums.maxima.org/3990342-post330.html

Awesome info Gemner! So you're suggesting, and if I"m reading that link properly, that the 350Z manifold will hit the Maxima oil filler cap, correct?

Interesting, and something I'd probably have overlooked until install time! Glad to hear about it now

that is my understanding. If you look at the RWD manifold while its on the engine you can see that it covers the oil filler hole and cap, I just dont know if it flat out prevents you from installing the manifold on the engine (without a massive vacuum leak) or if it "just" prevents you from removing the cap.

Gotcha... Hmmm. I guess we will find out. I will have to test it on the Revup Engine I have since the Non Rev is stripped, and apparently I need to keep this together to get an accurate test done

The cost for a 350/g35 valve cover (ONE OF THEM) here is $340 ~

The total cost for both of these was $120. And Stateside you can get them ~$30 each. hawt damn.

Correct. The way I'll do it on my car is to actually shave down the lower manifold where it 'jots' out. However I wanted to do this in a way that they average 'Joe' could do. I think more guys can cut plastic vs. grinding/cutting aluminum. Especially from a safety and contamination factor.

If you grind/cut the lip on the lower intake the cap has full clearance with no issues and no need to modify it.
