GI: 6Spd Timing Rings for 3.0 Timing.
Have a VQ30DE? DE-K? Or just hybrid swapped your maxima and kept the 3.0 Electronics and want a 6spd transmission?
Stuck on that timing ring issue?
Well I have your sollution, just need to gauge interest here, the price will be around 125 and I will need your stock 3.5 timing ring.

It's currently on my car on the fidanza lightweight flywheel, I'm sure it can easily be done to stock 6mt's flywheels also!
7/19/12 Update:
I'm doing this again, post a reply updating the list.

The picture is a demonstration, it's the exact timing ring I'm currently using on my car.
I will need either:
A timing ring for a lightweight fidanza flywheel for a 6spd
Or the timing ring off of a stock 6spd flywheel (it uses torx bolts)
Then I will use that to turn it into 3.0L timing for your 3.0 electronics.
After you get the timing ring out of the way, the 6spd swap is going to be no problem.

Hello, thanks for posting this, I would interested in one if the turnaround time isn't too long, I'm looking to do the swap soon since my 5mt is whining and leaking. Also, if I use the fidanza 3.5 flywheel you mentioned, will the bolt holes line up with the bolt holes on my VQ30DE?

The bolt holes will line up, the problem is you need 6mt bolts because of the screws being embedded into the flywheel.... (Or you can get risque and drill away at one of your sockets to fit into the FW).

Thanks a bunch aackshun. I've been reading a lot of your threads and you've provided a wealth of information. I just got an 02 max 6mt that was wrecked, so I'll be doing the swap soon. You're knowledge will be turbo helpful.

Thanks a lot! I also have a blog that I have not been updating lately, I'm going to be dropping my headers soon so I will have some pics of the process.
Nice pickup with the 02!! Since it's a complete car you can do a full ECU swap and not need this timing ring... if you like wiring, or just keep it hybrid, depends on what you want to do....
Lets start a list, the more that do it at once the cheaper it'll be, like any other group deal!!!

Possibility of getting a timing ring cut soon?
Greetings, I'm wanting to get my trans swapped out before it dies and/or school starts again. Would it be possible to get a timing ring cut soon? How much would you charge me? If not, could you tell me what exactly to tell a machine shop? A local shop said they would need to see the flywheel and ring. I sent them some of your photos, which I thought were quite clear, but he wanted to see the actual fw and timing ring. I'd like to avoid that since I want to get all my parts ready and do the whole thing over a weekend. Thanks in advance for all your help. I'd be stuck with my old turd 5 speed and gear oil pan on the garage floor without guys like you.

I was thinking Fidanza because the stock 3.5 fw is like 7 or 10 lbs heavier than the stock 3.0 fw. That seemed like too much of an increase. What do you think? Is that a sound analysis?
Theres a guy on fleabay that has a fidanza with an exedy oem clutch for $595, so I'll probably buy that one.
Will I need to order a timing ring from fidanza in order for you to cut the 3.0 ring?

Stock 6mt = 39lbs
Stock 5mt = 19lbs
Fidanza LW 6mt = 17lbs? (Forgot already lol)
Fidanza LW 5mt = 11lbs.
All you have to do is get the FW, take off the timing ring and send it to me.

On the way...
Thanks for the clarification, 20 lbs more definitely made that decision easier. I ordered a fidanza and on its way. I can't wait to get this trans swapped in and done. Did you notice any highway fuel economy increase with your 6 speed? I've been searching for posts on highway mpg increase with the 6mt but I've not been able to come up with anything.

Current MPG
30 City
34 Highway.
I've gotten up to 36 on the highway but I am not able to repeat that, I can hit 35 sometimes but 34 is what I get most often.
With the 5spd it was 25-26 City and 28-29highway, buy I did not have a working knock sensor for very long on the current intake and exhaust mods with the 5mt, maybe about a month or so, I didn't get a chance to try it w/ the unplugged o2 sensors.

Just a heads up, slight delay, we changed up machine shops down here, the last one was so far behind on work that it wasn't even funny, I've been waiting on mounts to be made for me since the beginning of June and they haven't even started.
Anyways, today I brought a 3.5 timing ring and I will drop it off @ the shop tomorrow so the guy know what he's getting into (that's all he needs, a before and after to compare to before he gives a final price to have two made).

I'm going for the stock flywheel. The aftermarket ones are too damned expensive. Do you have an ETA on the timing rings?
Will I have to weld it on, or can I drill/tap some holes to bolt it on?

You will have to do NUFFIN, just send me the FW and I will send it back to you ready to bolt on!!!
I dropped off the stuff @ the machine shop, it's all on them now!
I'm waiting on a price, once I get the price I will PM you guys and if you like it, send in your stuff! Should be done in a week.

That sounds great. Thanks for doing that. My shiny new Fidanza will be here tomorrow . And,...after three failed attempts at towing my new parts car from me mum's house to mine, it will be here in two weeks. All i got left is getting a timing ring.

Ok, for one $160
Two $150... and 3 or more for $140, this is including shipping right back to you, once I get all of the flywheels time from when I receive them all till they go back into a shipping box is WITHIN one week, this is extremely quick for the nature of the service being done.
When you receive your flywheel all you have to do is bolt it on your car!!!
I have Weimar Ben's FW, VW you wanna help him out so it can go down to $150?

Thats great!
Thanks, yeah, I'm up for it. Do you need the whole flywheel or just the ring? I can ship it tomorrow. Where am I shipping it to? How should I pay for it?
I'm assuming you haven't had any problems at all with the cps with the newly machined ring? I apologize if thats a stupid question, but I needed to ask to be sure.

I've been mad busy all weekend, I just checked my PM inbox and there was nothing there. Can you send the information again? Any special tricks necessary for pulling the t-ring off the flywheel? Thanks again.

I think I got VW's flywheel, I have to have someone else pick it up @ the Post Office cause I'm always @ work.
Anyways, They'll both be dropped off @ the Machine shop this week, I hope to have em shipped back out by Friday.
