VQ35 Swap, 95 ECU, retaining VIAS
I will obviously lose my VTC when I use 3.0 timing equipment and the 3.0 ecu. But if I run VAFC2, I will be able to retain the 3.5's variable intake functionality, correct?
I am thinking its similar to the 00VI, however I have not seen anyone mention using a vtec controller/rpm switch type thing in the "list of members who have done a 3.5 swap". I guess the alternative is to do the SSIM mod if I don't retain the VIAS? I plan on running some form of engine management such as emanage ultimate or SAFC/VAFC2 with a professional tune, but I will be using my 95 MT ECU.

Okay, I was just surprised that no one ever talks about retaining VIAS in my searching.
Thanks for the informative post. I will need to research more about the pros and cons of retaining that variable intake setup.
I would like to make atleast 220 whp when all is said and done with this swap after tune. I was looking at the ARP rod bolts and head studs and running a more aggressive cam and a better fuel system.

The blue line is with a stock manifold w/ functioning VIAS. The red line is w/ a deleted VIAS. Green is w/ SSIM. (gutted shelf)
Comparing stock vs. VIAS delete, the later makes power over stock from 3800rpm up to redline. This not only equals higher peak numbers, but more power in the area of the power band that you will be using for racing purposes. And in my opinion, even with the loss in hp/tq down below 3800rpm, the VQ35 still has more than enough grunt to break the tires loose down there, so the loss isnt noticed.
What are you tunning with? And are you planning on extending the rev limiter?

Sounds good, I saw a few dynos where people were getting sub 200 whp after swap, which I am definitely trying to avoid. Thanks for the clarification on the VIAS, I will be eliminating that after reading that the SSIM is potentially not worthwhile and that the 350z IM looks like a fair amount of fab work to put on.

Also the 02 VIAS is not just activated at a certain RPM its based off of other variables. I remember reading that it opens closes then opens up again. Nismology made a few posts about it years ago.

You'll need a msd 8969 rpm window swithc to make it work properly.
A good place I've found to hide the msd, is in the tray below the radio.
