gap between intake manifold and egr guide tube

im probably missing something stupid but its late and im tired

I am uninstalling my 00vi and going back to the USIM on my 4th gen and when I mount the USIM there is about a 1inch gap between the back of the manifold and the EGR guide tube that makes it impossible for me to screw the guide tube in.

Anyone know what I could be doing wrong? Im pretty sure the guide tube is oriented correctly since it lines up fine with the USIM bolt holes except theres a fat gap.

I tried wiggling the USIM around but its just not happening. I tried putting in the EGR bolts first but then the lower and upper manifolds dont line up.

here are pics of the gap:

also which bolts do I use? I remember needing the two fat washers but cant remember the bolts. There are the only pairs I could find and they are about the same size so it probably doesnt matter but if anyone could let me know for sure which bolts are the correct ones that would be great.

Is the bottom portion/mount of the EGR tube loose? Loosen up the bolts in the bottom of that tube and try it. Also...do you remember bending that sucker? ****s pretty tough to bend without leverage.

Use the bolts with the larger built-in washers. You can clearly see that protected the EGR spacers from corrosion.

Why you taking off 00vi? Looks like your Maxima isnt happy with that and giving you a hard time.

found the problem

turns out there is quite a bit of play when you loosen the lower two bolts of the egr guide tube even tho it slides onto screw mounts. Its just a ***** to get to those bolts so I was lazy and was hoping that wasnt the problem.

prob gonna sell the max soon so parts are coming off!
