I found a 95 maxima with a blown head gasket in my area for $800. I could probably pick it up for like $500.
I have been wanting to do this swap for awhile now. Want to make it pretty much a weekend/drag car. Car will be fully gutted and maybe even cut a little bit.
Mods would be:
3" intake with a velocity stack
Ebay VQ30 headers
3" exhaust with a magnaflow mufler dumped under the car
Block off plate
Wet kit with a .064 jet
Standalone fuel system for the kit
Summit star 15x8 with 235/60/15 MT drag radials (I have these already from my other car, might go to a 26x8.5 MT et drag)
Summit star 15x4 with 165/80/15 Nexens
My main question of this swap is how much power do you loose when you use the 3.0 cams and don't swap to the 3.5 cams? Pretty much the reason I want to do this, is so I don't have to use the cam spacers.
Thanks guys!

As far as I know I'm the only one who has done it this way, could be wrong though. No dyno numbers for me though so no way to really compare mine to others I guess. If I were to just venture a guess based upon the cam profiles I'd guess maybe like 10 or 15whp. Who knows though, I'm not a cam profile guru.

Yeah, I saw your times and was gonna say that 104mph is pretty good with manifolds so it must not be that bad.
Just to make sure though, You don't need to run the cam adapters right?

You're stripping the car and making it a weekend race car, but you're going to go with using small cams and cheap out...why not take the time to do it right?

I don't have any money. The cheaper the better. I'll spray 10hp more than lol.

Yeah, probably gonna run some 26x8.5 slicks for the track and the 235/60/15s for the street.
I was going to get some 26x8.5x15 slicks, but I ended up getting some 23x7.5x15 slicks due to the fact that I'll probably have to shift into 4th at the end of the track even with 26" slicks. I figured that if I have to shift into 4th, I might as well use it, so I went with shorter slicks. Plus a shorter slick will keep the front end lower which will help with weight transfer.

Good luck with the build!
Sorry man, but you're gonna have a hard time hooking on those I think.

This statement makes no sense, you can buy a broken car, slicks, headers, blockoff plate, motor, another fuel pump, fuel cell, fuel lines, afpr and etc. But you said I don't have any money.
cam adapters are not that expensive or if you do not want to use them drill out the 3.5 cams and use spacers

You guys saying he isn't going to be able to hook on those slicks seem to be forgetting that Jime uses that size and he pulled a 1.5 on them. There goes that theory.
Getting your tires to hook is much more about technique than tire size.

So your are saying that the slick will not be any shorter than your stock setup?

Neal you also have to take into acount that Jim is an auto and has great control over his tranny. There isnt much room for user error there. Thats all i was saying by that.

No, the slicks are shorter than the stock tires, but not by too much. My stock tires are about 25.5" tall. The front of my car will sit about 1.25" lower with the 23" slicks. I thought you were talking about the wheels. My slicks are mounted to some 3rd gen se wheels.

Basically anything I can save money on, I will.
I didn't know you could just drill the 3.5 cams. I thought to use the 3.5 cams you had to use the spacers and drill them. Damn, I'll just do that then.

He also has an auto, getting a manual to hook on that small of a tire is gonna be a lot harder.
