Now for the real problem. My brother installed a rev up oil pump for my VQ30DE motor. We put the motor back in, removed the harness for the coils and started cranking it to build oil pressure. We cranked it for a while but the motor was not building any sort of oil pressure...
What type of gauge are you using?. could be faulty
How many quarts did you poor into the engine.? (bone dry vq's can take up to 6.5 quarts) What does the dip stick read? Is this pump new? Also make sure you have a gasket or proper seal between the pump & pickup (strainer).
You can also unpulg/ remove the psi switch/sensor, oil filter and or valve cover then crank the engine to see if oil comes out.

Are we missing something...
PLease help.... :LDISHGO*&@$T(*^%$(*^@
I dont think your going to build up any oil pressure from cranking it with the starter. I tried the same thing and didnt build up anything. Started the car, and pressure went to 100 right away. just start it. There's no reason it shoudlnt be building pressure once u start it. Btw, you removed harness from coils? that means its spitting out fuel!!!, disconnect the cam pos sensor next time.

We unplugged it and had it cranked over with no oil coming out. We also put 4 or so liters of oil (dipstick shows high).

Wouldn't the motor build pressure once it gets some cranks? Like we cranked her for a while with not even a drop of oil coming out off the psi switch/sensor.
Sorry for not quoting both of you and putting my comments in 1 message box (fell asleep downstairs and thought id check the pc before going to bed upstairs )

Don't do that. Oil pressure should build up since the oil pump should be movin oil through the galleys. If not, you could be starving the motor for oil. First startups are crucial and you should always have proper lubrication.
Check that the sensor is working and make sure your oil is topped off. If no pressure is there, then you may have a problem with the oil pump. Better now than a high-rpm shift.

I can tell you that the sensor is working as it was pulled off my original motor. As for the oil pump its brand spanking new. Unless we missed something in the installation but it was the exact same size and everything. Heck im pretty sure its the same pump but they give it a different name!
As for oil the car was topped off and measured (reached H).
Ehhhhh there's no reason to "prime" the motor. Cranking the motor with an unprimed/unbled tensioner is just BEGGING for the chain to skip a tooth. Why tempt fate; just start the thing. The damage caused wouldn't be any worse than if you had let the engine sit for a month.

A properly prepped motor does not need to be primed(at least our vq's), for example bearing and journals filled with assembly lube or at least wet with oil, and also all the timing equipment along with the cams filled with assembly lube. When I built my motor, i put lube EVERYWHERE, as soon as i started the car not a SINGLE sound, timing, cams, nothing. Another time i was "trying" to be extra careful by cranking/priming the motor, and not a single PSI showed up. I too put in a new rev up pump.
Just start the thing, makes sure the oil filter is filled with oil before putting it on, otherwise there will be a delay in the oil supply since it will take longer to fill the filter before it moves on further. Also make sure you have good oil level.
and like nismology said, priming/cranking the motor with the tensioners having no previous oil pressure is asking for trouble(skipping). Usually i fill the tensioners with oil and allow the piston to extract for when i push it back in there is alot of tension on it, thats when I pull the guide onto it with the chain already in place, its a good trick to know and most likely not everyone does it.
I have a handy little gas bottle that has a screw fitting that has a tube to the bottom of the bottle, remove the fitting and fill with oil, screw fitting back on and the fitting then screws to oil sensor port but has a valve in between. Fill bottle with compressed air to 40psi via another fitting and slowly let the oil pressurise into the oil galleries for a few seconds. Works like a charm every time

Well said.
