Not the first on a fwd vq35 but I believe you are the first 5.5 gen. Do you have a spacer and how does it compare to the fwd IM?

good job man! tune the sucka and dyno!

Which IMs did you get? regular or rev-up? (FYI to anyone that does not know, the two ARE different in the LIM and the lower clamshell AFAIK. Revup has shorter runners for better breathing up top)

How big is the power gain? Is the power curve more smoother than the stock manifold? Looks good.

It's about damn time you put those bolts to use

You should go with the AAM spacer, good gains. And no, not biased (well I am, but it's against them).

no dyno as of yet but it feels better mid range and top end. i had the ssim on before so the lack of low end is normal to me. track event is this sunday so ill find out if it was worth it...

you don't need to if you use the LIM from the 350z as well

I'm gonna try this with my 3.0....I'm gonna try and use the revup lower and the kinetix top half.

good job my Friend

Using the 350z LIM is not optional; it's a must. But even if the port spacing wasn't different (which it is), both the FWD and RWD LIM's are the same height so that wouldn't make any difference.

i did have to modify the hood. took off the padding and cut out the support beams in the middle. i had to move the harness in the middle and take the bolts that hold the fuel rail to the firewall to flip the fuel dampener upside down so the throttle body would bolt up. once i got the upper plenum welded there was no turning back lol.

went to the track but wasn't satisfy with my times. but it is my fault. im too broke to afford a tune and new spark plugs before the deadline. but tax season is coming so that will be my last trip to the track N/A...

Is the hood clearance issue because of the TB? I would think the way around that would be to weld on an aluminum tube angled slightly downwards from the upper plenum, maybe about 4-6" long, and connect the TB a little farther down. This is as opposed to putting the TB at the highest point of the plenum.

Did you have any issues rerouting/relocating the vacuum lines? Specifically, the EVAP canister solenoid line and the one line (can't remember) that used to go to the back of the elbow?

Great job! However, I'd be very surprised if a spacer-less standard 350Z IM is any better than an SSIM up top.

If I recall correctly, haven't the few people that have done this mod shown that without the 350Z cam timing maps, the 350Z IM is outperformed by the FWD IM (in particular with the SSIM mod)?

If you're referring to Meximax's dyno, he didn't have CVTC at all. The default cam timing that most 3.5 swaps run is good for mid-range power. This also happens to coincide with where the FWD VI is it's happiest. The OP's car actually has CVTC, so let's see what happens before drawing conclusions.

Well meximax was part of it but I was looking more towards Jime.

I was thinking he never thought the 350Z IM was all that great, but after some research I found he did see an improvement in his track times and grew to like the 350Z IM better.

He went from a 12.489 @ 109.34 with the 3.5 IM, to a 12.48 @ 111.09 with the 350Z IM. And then was able to do even better by adjusting the CVTC.

So theoretically there should be gains with the 350Z IM.

so does this mean that 3.5s with 3.0timing would be better off with the SSIM rather them the 350im?

I installed a 350 intake on my 3.5 swap and on the dyno I went from 258 to 274Hp.Also gained a lot of torque but I can't remember the number of the top of my head. I had the kinetix intake on instead of the ssim though. I'll post my new dyno numbers later .One thing I did do with the 350 intake was I cut off where the 6 bolts in the middle of the intake were.I ground the inside of the top half of the intake smooth then welded up the holes.I did put the spacer on so I had to run around town like a redneck with my hood off and the intake pipe and filter sticking out.I did get into the 13's with this setup on street tires and a 250 lb. passenger with me the last time I was at the track.Only got to do 2 runs because it was so crowded so I did not get to test the new setup out any better. Car was very loud with this setup. Even with my exhaust cutout open you could hear the intake sucking air.

Wow 270? I'm interested in the graphs. Also could you post up your timeslips? What other mods did you have?

My graphs are on the dyno computer at the shop. Just need to load them to my computer and down load when i can remember. When I'm at the garage I'm turning wrenches from the time I get off work 6PM until way late in the morning so I don't think about posting my graphs unless I'm killing time surfing on the org.The 350 z intake made a huge difference from the kinetix.I wish I had a ssim manifold to install and compare 350 z manifold on the dyno. What surprised me is how much torque I gained. I expected to actually lose torque not gain it.Of course with dyno run files everyone thinks I'm talking out my butt so I'll have to make sure to get them up but this setup definitely flows a lot more air and worked very well with my cams and some tuning. My time slip is listed and I said I got into the 13 just but with an extra person, street tires spinning, and just figuring out the shift points on the car but that's for another section. i will say this that past 6600rpm I thought the 350 intake would pull like mad to red line but it had the same flat line to the 7200 rpm cutoff as the kinetix hence figuring out the shift points of the car and getting faster times at the track.I would love to see someone run boost with the 350 intake and I seriously thought about it but I've decided to move on to other projects and have started selling off parts of my car to other members on the org.

AAM spacer FTW.

Just remember, don't tighten down the middle plenum bolts too much. If you do, you're going to crack the upper half, and then you'll have to get it welded or a new one modified.
