Could really use some pointers...

No spark...

Posted in the 5th gen section... long story made short..

I've got a 3.5, running on a 02 harness/ECU.. I'm getting a crank position sensor circuit code on the Consult. It takes a good 4-5 seconds of cranking for the engine to start/run.. The RPM signal isn't showing while cranking on the Consult.. afer 4-5 seconds.. the cam sensors pic up at 63*, and the RPM starts to work.. The engine fires/runs at this time.

I've tried a few QR25 sensors that I've had laying around.. but, nothing works.. I finally ordered a new sensor for the Maxima.. which should be here tomorrow. I thought all of the newer hall effect sensors were the same in terms of signal/function.. Any ideas?

Also.. If anyone can give me a pinout for the sensor, that would be great... The FSM isn't very clear on which way to check the pins as far as order. Is it 1-3 with the pins facing me, and the plug snap facing up? Or, the other way around? I've got 12 volts, ground and continuity from the middle wire back to the ECU.

If anyone is interested.. I figured it out.

Turns out.. one of the pins inside the crank position sensor harness was burnt/distorted, just enough to make intermittent contact. I replaced the harness, and the problem was solved.

That piece of the harness is connected to a slew of other connections. Did you get an entire harness or just splice in what you needed?

CPS was was giving my the same trouble on my 4th gen, I went through 2 sensors with no luck. Finally decided to buy a used harness. Got the used harness, spliced in about 6" of wire from the CPS, spliced it in, and have yet to see the problem return.

I'm using a VQ35 A33B harness.. the CPS has it's own sub-harness.. so, I was able to replace just that section.

I've run into this problem before. Made me before AND after the fix. Glad you got it figured out.

Yeah.. it was driving me crazy! I would pin the harness with my voltmeter.. but, I was checking the wire where it went into the plug. Stupid me... I never thought to actually look AT the pins.
