I ran across this last night and after reading it, I figured I would get your guys' opinions. I know it may not seem like worth the effort, but I am going to have plenty of time before I get the money to buy everything I need for my build. So lemme know what you guys think about this.
Also, what do you guys use to remove the cotter pin on the piston/connecting rod? I cant get it off for the life of me.
The wrist-pin retainer is removable with snap-ring pliers you can get at Sears for a few bucks - I have the reversible ones for inner and outer snap rings. If that's what you're talking about?
Yeah, the snap rings. Thanks for the help grey, I got em.

I have used the abrasive kit for P&P the heads & IM on my 3.5 project.
Expensive but a good kit. You will need carbide bits if you plan to remove alot of material ie ssim.
I would have a machinest/ pro inspect the block & cylinder heads before
you put money into it....
Goodluck with the build

Hey MOHFpro90, I use some of their products for my engine/block prep, ( I buy from Jegs or summit racing ) if you follow the instruction that's pretty strait forward, just get ready to get dirty for long hours. Lol
What works very well is the cross buff, I pretty much cleaned the engine heads with it and the cartridge roll.
I'm going to post some pics over the week-end of both head of the VQ30DEK that I have port & polish and cleaned. I'm going to drop the heads at the shop next week for the valve jobs, I expect to get them back in 3-4 weeks, so in the meantime I'm going to prep the rest of the engine, block etc.
Good luck with the project, if you need help pm me and I'd be more than happy to help.
Thanks for your help. I have decided to do this, as I have plenty of time, and see possible benefits. If I have any questions, you will be one of the first ones Ill pm.
good reading if nothing else. i am starting my engine build as well although assembly will probably be done professionally. then again i do like to diy, who knows?

Dont forget to post those pics!
No problem brother, I have about another 3-4 hours to go on the heads, mainly the final polishing of the exhaust port. I think this will eradicate 99% of the carbon build-up and keep the flow of the exhaust gas optimal. I will be finishing during the week-end and once the work is done I'll post many pics so you guys can see my work.
Sorry for not posting the pics yet, I've been really busy lately. The final polishing of the exhaust port is such a long process, since it have to be done in 3 process. Anyway monday I've ordered a 1/4 electric die grinder to fasten the process and help reduce the noiseso I should get it either today or monday and finish that biatch once and for all. I only want to post the pics of the finish result otherwise there is nothing to see that you guys haven't seen already. Hopefully next week is going to be the last week I spend on the heads, once this is done the engine build up/dress up should be going pretty fast.
Sweet man! You are using the DEK heads, correct? Im really interested in seeing the results, it will give me something to try to obtain when I start doing my head work.
Yes I'm using the DEK heads. I think they will flow as good as the VQ35 heads or very close to. When I look at it I'm very satisfied of the works I've accomplished but gee that is such a long process, I cant wait to start re-assembling the entire car but that wont be before this fall, as I have to prep the car for a complete paint jobs later during the summer.
I've just received the electric Die Grinder, so I'll be finishing the jobs this week-end for sure, please be patient I'll post the pics saturday night or sunday.
I cant create a new thread so I figured I'd comment in a few rooms. I need help. I leave for Basic Training in 2 months and when I return I'll have $10,000. I want to upgrade my engine. I want everything rebuilt and have some upgrades added while they are in there (the engine). Can anyone tell me who does this type of stuff. I can't find a company anywhere that I can take my car to and they'll put in a cold air intake, upgrade cams shafts, cattback exhaust, possibly turbo, etc... Please send me an email at runlouisville@yahoo.com to let me know where I can take my car to do this. I will also be looking for a sponsor.
Dude, you really arent going to earn respect on this forum by spamming the same post around...honestly if you have a serious question ask it, if not, then wait until you do.
