Wideband 02 Comparison and Other Info

Not sure if this is a repost, but someone shared this WB02 comparison with me amidst my search for one so I thought I'd pass it on here:

http://paceperformance.com/paceperfo...ndshootout.pdf

I know the usual Zeitronix, Innovate, and PLX products, but someone also mentioned the FAST WB02, which has come down in price recently it seems.

Cliffs:

Just a few of the WB02 threads that I came across and have been referring to:

General opinions:

Wideband o2 decisions, decisions, decisions
Wbo2?
wide band question

Installation:

I had my Innovate XD-16/LC-1 and PLX M300 both connected at the same time and the PLX was reading basically the same as the Innovate. The Innovate kit is not really reliable at all, most of the time that I had it, its been giving me an error code so I kinda of regret swapping the PLX out.

Interesting chart.

JeEvE that's the first I've heard of Innovative not being reliable... what's the error code for?

The sample rate and accuracy on the LC-1 is very good though...

anyone notice that they ran for an hour on leaded reace gas before testing? not sure why they would do that, but i would bet if they hadnt used leaded gas all of the results would have been more accurate

I guess I'm glad I went with the IM LC-1. Seems to be pretty accurate to me, and this confirms my thoughts.

Sweet! Thanks for sharing Puppetmaster. Gotta love the Consumer Reports style of the chart!

Glad to see my LC-1/XD-16 is at the top of the chart. All of my extensive research paid off.... I guess.

I find my LC-1 and XD-16 to work very well and never give me error codes. Like DandyMax said, what error codes was the gauge reporting JeEve??

I saw this a while back - i wonder how much it might vary from controller to controller. If you got 10 of the same model wideband controllers and tested the variance between them.

I guess im just kind of annoyed with the Innovate unit. The first one, the LC-1 came DOA so they sent me a replacement. It worked well for a few months, then once in a while it would give me an E-8 code and sometimes an E-2 code. Right now all it does is give me an E-8 code and does not work at all. I think the code is related to an issue with the sensor so Ill try out another one but I have a feeling something is up with the LC-1 unit. Maybe im just having bad luck with it so Ill take back what I said about it being unreliable.

Also bookmarked, I think this should be added to the Safc/Vafc, EU, SMT sticky - I didn't see some of those threads. Thanks for sharing Puppetmaster.

Credit really goes to another member at my350z.com who shared that with me. I was leaning towards the Innovate LC-1 or PLX R-300 to begin with, so now it is just a matter of finding a good deal on one.

Neal brings up a good point about brand quality though. I'm assuming most "big" names will have decent quality control, then again, you never know I guess.

The only units that I know of that you can calibrate are the Innovate and TechEdge. (I have both) They mention the TechEdge in their article but I was disappointed they didn't test it.

The best authoritative read about the Innovate vs the others is here.

my350z.com has a deal for the LC-1 for $325 shipped in the Vendor Classifieds section.

The PLXR300 controller unit sometimes goes blank when it's hot out.

ya i was going to buy a AEM WB but then i saw this chart and started reading reviews of the innovate WB's. Everyone seems to love them so i'm getting the LC-1 and an LED display, i don't want the big guage.

For people with the UTEC or planning to get a UTEC, see Jime's comments on the TurboXS Tuner as well:

BTW the TurboXS Tuner is the only W/B that will display\log with the terminal software, UTI3 and MPS UTEC Logger will work with some of the others if you are interested in them. Check their sites to see which W/B's will work with them. I prefer UTI3 over the MPS UTEC Logger for ease of use and tuning

Yes, as I indicated I was experiencing lockups etc with 3 other widebands but with the Tuner none. If you read some of the 350Z forum threads this is a common experience with the 3rd party software and a non-TurboXS wideband. I eventually gave up using my LC-1, LM-1 and TechEdge because of that and got the TurboXS Tuner, I could have saved myself a lot of grief and money had I did that in the first place.

The other widebands are great and perform well on their own, just not with the UTEC.

BTW regardless of which third party software you use, you still have to use the terminal program to make any changes to the UTEC so better get fluent with it.
Full discussion took place in this thread:

UTEC is in..........

Possibly the stupidest question i have but... are we suppose to run one LC-1 or is it best to have two units? I dont know where I saw this posted, but someone had a bunge up by or around the headers, and then another further down the exhasut.

Is this helpful, or not really needed?

Not needed. Just place the sensor right after the "Y" in the y-pipe. You'll be set.

or if you really want, have two bungs welded at each collection point of the headers and run two widebands for each bank.
