Development Interest Thread: Anodized/Chrome SSIM/VIAS Removal plate

Update: The NWP Engineering VIAS/SSIM Block Plate is now available for sale!

The NWP Engineering VIAS/SSIM Block Plate is now available for sale! The production batch turned out beautifully! The silver anodized plating really gives this piece a clean look and allows it to be very durable to resist scratches and corrosion! The price has been set at $60 plus $6.00 shipping via insured USPS 2-3 day Priority Mail.

To place your order, please visit:

http://www.nwpengineering.com/Phenol...cers.html#VIAS

Here are a couple pics of the VIAS/SSIM Block Plate made from Silver Anodized 6061 Billet Aluminum:

Those that would like to order the VQ35DE Thermal Intake Spacer Kit along with the VIAS Block Plate, I have decided to do FREE shipping on this combo purchase for a limited time.

And as always, I am truely grateful for all your support!

-------------------------------------------------

Who is interested in NWP Engineering making a plate to cap your intake manifold once the SSIM mod has been done or once the variable intake butterfly valve has been removed?

I know you are probably saying, someone already makes one. Yes they do. But I'm talking about making the most beautiful plate in the entire world! The piece will be CNC Machined out of 1/4" thick 6061 Billet Aluminum, edges deburred and polished, tumbled for perfectly smooth edges, engraved with the NWP logo, then plated with either Chrome or Anodized in Silver, Blue or Red. I will guarantee it will be absolutely gorgeous!

So if there is any interest what so ever, then I will make it. The price is expected to be around $50-60 for the plate. It is a tad more expensive than fabbing it up yourself or buying it elsewhere, but like I said, once you see how beautiful this plate turns out, you will think it's too nice to put in the engine bay!

So, please post up your thoughts. What colors and style of plating would you like to see?

Shiny Chrome? Anodized Mat Finish in any color? Plain old brushed aluminum without any plating?

Thanks,

Aaron Kimball

No I can't. But anybody that has ever seen my spacers know I don't mess around with product quality! It's some of the best you will find.

The plate itself doesn't show a power gain, but doing the SSIM does! Most see a power improvement by simply removing the VIAS butterfly. But the SSIM is much better.

This plate will help you seal up the intake manifold in a nice way once you are done modifying it.

I know if I make this plate, it will sell. I'm more concerned with what colors you guys want. Anodized Blue, Red, Silver, or shiny Chrome?

I guess shiny Chrome it is. Nobody is speaking up about what color they want. I will just make a large run of them to try to keep the costs down as much as possible.

The price is expected to be around $35-50 for the plate.
I won't make a whole lot of money on each plate. But, I'm doing it just to add to my list of products that I offer. Also, keep in mind this plate will easily be the most beautiful piece you've ever seen!

I guess people are interested in different finishes. I will just have to stock them all. But that will drive up the costs. If I just make up one plate, one finish, the costs will be kept to a minimal.

I can do a flat anodize silver too. I would imagine that most of the Maxima crowd is looking for a clean piece that doesn't stand out too much.

Yes I know. But the quality is very poor. I've had this piece in my hand. It is not CNC'd. I am talking about making one much nicer. I can't explain in text. I will just make it and post pics.

All I need to know is what finish you prefer.

Yes, I forgot to add that in my original post. Each plate will have a shallow engraved NWP logo on the front.

SSIM = Secret Sauce Intake Manifold

Includes removing the VIAS butterfly plate and completely removing the aluminum shelf inside the main chamber of the upper intake manifold. You may lose low end power, but the gains you get in the top end are definitely worth it.

VIAS = Variable Induction Air Control System

It's a term used by Nissan in their Factory Service Manual. It is just like it sounds. It's the stock variable intake system. So when someone says they are simply removing the VIAS and nothing else, all they are doing is removing the variable intake butterfly plate inside the intake manifold. Just like the SSIM, you lose low end and should gain more top end to make it worth doing. That's the theory anyway. I haven't proved this yet.

The SSIM takes a LOT more work to do and the results have been proven time and time again. So when you do the SSIM and/or VIAS plate removal, having this cap plate that is ready to bolt up makes it easier and much nicer looking than hacking up the stock plate.

Thank you for the suggestion. Two coatings isn't really a cost efficient option for this piece.

But a solid engraved black anodized plate is a doable option if more chime in.

Right now, it's looking like a plain brushed aluminum and shiny chrome plate are the winners.

But please keep the votes coming. I'll be paying attention to this thread for the next few weeks, then I'll make a decision and produce the parts.

Thank you for everyone's feedback!

Haha Good idea. I can make it out of 1/8" 6061 Billet Aluminum. But, 1/4" thick aluminum will be a better looking piece I think.

I would want just anodized silver so that way it wouldn't stand out so much but you would know the difference just because of the NWP logo...

I'm sorry. It can only be used on the 3.5L Maxima, Altima, Murano, Quest, and Infiniti i35.

The first prototype is complete for the NWP Engineering VIAS Removal/SSIM Intake Manifold Block Plate!

Instead of having the NWP logo engraved, I decided to make it RAISED. I think this looks a lot better than engraved or laser etched.

The entire plate is CNC Machined out of 6061 Billet Aluminum and is 1/4" thick.

If you look closely in the 1st picture, you might notice a line above the "W" in the NWP logo. This line will be completely gone on the production run. Other than that, it's a beautiful piece!

The plate will also include 3 replacement zinc plated flange head bolts of the correct length. That will make for a much cleaner install since they are silver zinc plated instead of yellow zinc plated like your factory bolts.

It will also include instructions on how to remove the VIAS system and install the plate. And a rubber plug will be included in order to cap off the vacuum source on the solenoid once the VIAS butterfly plate has been removed.

The bolts shown in the picture are not the type that will be included in the kit. They will be a flanged hex head bolt similiar to the stock bolts, but they will be the correct length and have a silver zinc plated finish.

This plate is expected to be available for sale within the next 3 weeks. An official price has not been determined just yet, but it's expected to be around $50-60.

Nice work, Aaron..... sign me up for the first one. For real.

and you could sell me the 3.5 intake manifold too..... heck, it's Xmas.... I have some ideas about a plasma cutter and aluminum to try out.

The plate has gotta be worth .1 - .2 sec. in the quarter-mile.

Hummm... have you thought about doing custom initials on that plate? That would look cool at a show.

.

Making a custom plate will be very costly, but possible. The only way I have kept the prices this low is by initially investing a lot of money in making a large production batch.

The 3.5 intake manifold is not for sale. Sorry.

Just plain old billet aluminum can look cool. It doesn't need a blue or red anodized finish.
