SAFCII + larger MAF housing . . . . .

This should work w/ the VAFCII also.

Long story short.

Settings,
Sens. No

In 1, OUT 17.

Impressions.

Throttle response = Greatly improved.
Overall Performance = Greatly improved.

Aside from that, here's my untuned data.
Not bad, but as always, there's room for improvement. I'm thinking a dyno should happen soon.

Wow search is your friend. Thanks NmexMax again. I hate my Berke Intake. Will modify housing and buy range rover parts tomorrow. I need to catch up with that dude to replace the parts to my stock air box (sorry thinking out loud).

1 question...

With the upgraded larger TB + Piping + Larger Maf Housing, are you using the GAB setup or closed stock Air-Box. Also, are you using a performance filter or stock air filter?

how come you put 1 in and 17 out? I never understood what these settings meant...I always left them on 1 in and 1 out

Because I'm using a MAF similar to that of a Q45 (In1) and my stock ECU (out 17)

K&N filter. My TB is stock. I'm using JWT POP. But I do plan on integrating this set-up to b friendly w/ the GAB/stock set-up.

17 is the A33 setting. 1 is the Q45 setting.

Essentially it 'curves' the signal to tailor it to the A33B ECU. If I hadn't done that, I would have had to make MAJOR corrections %.

well I can see that...but what does it MEAN?

what does 17 out MEAN to make it the a33 setting...and what does 1 IN mean to make it the q45 setting?

Because the A-pexi manual says so. Every different MAF is assigned a number. In the case of the A32 MAF, the number is 4.

I think what he is asking, what exactly does the number mean? for example 1 in 2 out. wtf does 1 mean and wat does 2 mean? volts, pressure, degree, temp, a multiplier, etc......

For sensor number it's what i just said. A number used to identify specifically which MAF you're using. For an A32 this is 4 in 4 out since our A32's MAF's have been assigned the number 4.

For sensor calibration it's a multiplier. For instance, since a skyline has 2 MAF's and the ECU wants to see each signal separately it would be 2 in 2 out. If you wanted to convert that same skyline to a single MAF setup it would be 1 in 2 out. For a car that is using 2 MAF's but the ECU only wants one input from both of them the setting would be 2 in average out. For our purposes, 1 in 1 out is the correct setting.

I understood exactly what you said. I imagined the info to be obsolete to you, since there is the fact that you're demodding your car and selling it as well.

Doesn't really matter since 99.98% of you will not ever do the MAF mod.

so you're saying I should change it from the 1 IN and 1 OUT I have now, to 4 IN and 4 OUT? Would I have to retune after making this change?

Please reread the entire thread, most namely, this post. http://forums.maxima.org/showpost.ph...52&postcount=9

Then refer to the SAFCII manual and modify the values with respect to your application.

You have a cleaner setup then i do. I am using the berke mid pipe that I got cut and had it stretched to fit the rubber cuplings of the 82mm maf. Using the stock air box with K&N filter and GAB setup. I want to take a pic and post it.

I have a question about the SAFC II. I finally got the damn password off (couldn't remember it) and I want to change the sensor setting. I want to make sure that I read what you wrote correctly before I blow my engine. Go to the sensor settings and change the settings to in 1 and 17 out right? Sorry to keep asking you.

That's correct on the settings.

Im not using the Q45 MAF. I bought it from a member on here and am not sure what it came from.

Looks like the M62 piece, but from some of the pics ive seen, the M62 sensor bolt pattern is off by 90*

SAFC settings will recognize that maf as the Q45...that's where the Q45 came into play.

LMAO!!!! WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW. I can not get the f*ing grin off my face. I am definitely going for a dyno sometime next week or the week after at SRT. I love it....thanks NmexMax.

Pic of my ghetto setup. I took apart the GAB setup and closed the airbox. I will try just three different setups. 1) stock air box, 2) GAB 3) Apex'i Dry filter no Air box. Hopefully the shop will have patience for me to dyno each setup to see what yields better gains.

Oh and i was wrong about the size of the MAF, we have the same one LOL. I need to shorten the berke pipe about another half inch to an inch.

Yes sir!!! Ordered mine on monday received it on wednesday, and installed (finally) today.

Total was about $110 shipped.

I hope my dyno numbers stay the same or go up. I was at 242whp 236tq. Sorry no run files from Tempest Racing (seems there machines are always down when I go). Hopefully SRT will have a better setup for dynos.

I am happy to see this thing FINALLY catching on.

Land Rover was selling them much cheaper than BMW (remember some Range Rovers are/were using the M62 V8). But let everyone know where you got it for $110.

I'm surprised more have not done it.
Back in the day, I thought about upsizing, but then I just decided to take the MAF out altogether...

this is a noob question, BUT............

with all this talk about afr and timing....

i don't need a afc controller to do this mod right? and i won't have to worry about timing either..... right?

Yes you do, read the thread again. You'll go way lean w/o one and might do bad stuff to your internals. I'm not clear on your 2nd ?. Be a little clearer, get a better answer.

... but if you're saying what I think you're saying, then you probably also know that my pressure-based tune was adjusted for different air temps across the spectrum, so no need to keep re-tuning. I drove around for months with it in different weather with no problems. And IMHO my custom-made intake was about as free flowing as possible short of running an open TB...
