Did the Z IM make power over the stocker?

Hello,
Seems like I've seen a dyno for this but can't find it now. Did the Z intake manifold make any power over the stock FWD 3.5L intake manifold or has nobody tested it yet?

Thanks,
Fred

I am pretty sure it lost power due to the lack of exhaust VTCs

To date, people have only used Z33 IMs from 287 hp motors which do not have exhaust VTCs.

Maybe you mean intake VTCs. AFAIK only Vasily and myself have 3.5 swaps with Z33 IMs and functioning intake VTCs.
I am not aware of any A33B owners that have installed Z33 IMs.

Vasily has dynoed. It was nothing spectacular but he was lacking headers and any sort of tuning at the time.

I am doing a lot of flow testing and material removal inside my Z33 IM right now. I am hoping to be finished before the snow flies so I can dyno it.

I only plan to dyno once so I want to have everything optimal before I go. It may have to wait until the spring.

I see, are you using an aftermarket spacer as well? The seem to be the hot ticket for the Z guys.

Yeah he put down around 225 whp 240 tq with stock headers. Had quite a bit of potential there.

I have not yet. The IM just clears my hood now when closed. I would have to drop the engine about 1/4" if I go with the spacer.

I am concentrating on equalizing the pressure drops between cylinders for a given flow. They are horribly out of whack in stock form (close to 50% variation) I have dropped it considerably without messing with the runner lengths too much. If I cannot get it to where I am satisfied, then I will get a spacer.

225 whp and 240 tq is nothing spectacular for a bone stock maxima? i can only imagine what happens when headers and tuning come into play.

it's not bone stock...it had intake/Z33IM/catback

stock 2k2 6spds put down 205whp....he made 225whp....so those 3 mods gave him 20whp....throw in some cattman headers and a test pipe...with air fuel tuning...he'll be in the 250whp range...

He may have meant it in the context of it being a prime placement for a wbo2.

I didn't dyno or have VTC's but I am comparing my car before/after the Z33 IM.

Stock 2k2 IM vs. Z33 IM, I seemed to average better quarter mile times on the Z33 with worse conditions. But then again the "after" setup had HS headers instead of stock headers and a y-pipe as well. I also beat my previous trap by 2 mph, and ran 2 tenths faster with a 1 tenth slower 60ft.

Too many variables to be anywhere near conclusive.

My best 1/4 times have come from the stock 2k2 IM, I have a higher trap with the modified IM ie 111 vs 108 but my best et is from the stock IM. The totally modified 350Z IM ie spacer etc etc was in the middle, waste of money unless you are running cam timing and then I am not sure of the results.
