New 3.5L IM

We've talked on the phone today, the manifold most likely is going to be a dual runner setup. I have to take some pictures, some more measurements etc....
It won't be plastic composite BS that our cars came with stock (DE-Ks atleast) so there should be no problem with VIAS rod cup breaking.
If everything goes well we might have the manifold in works in about 2 weeks.

Mike I'm Down I'm actually suppose to head up to Wisconsin to fix Waterpump and Ball Joints unless you can assist with that but back too topic Throw me on the list. But the only thing I will need to get with my IM is 6holes drilled for the Direct port Nitrous that I have on my existing IM.

2.-3k .. I'm an A3B auto...
It's in th dyno forum, as with all my others....Tq converer raped me... I was a dyno newbl3t.
Using a right click anyone can make tht pic bigger, I sized it down becaus I didn' wanna rape the thread w/ big azz pics.

Here is the update....
IM will be dual stage... and it will look VERY close to this.
It won't be identical but it will use a Honda-like intake manifold as they are know and proven to flow the best at all RPMs.
I will be going to the dyno again before the intake and after. I will also tune for THE best power with EU on VIAS and best power on the custom intake. See which one makes most power.

from the guys I contacted regarding P&P on our heads that have done vq heads and have a great reputation said most of the gain would not be from polishing the actual combustion chamber or the pent roof/quench areas, but rather from doing the valves and the valve ports really well is where the vq heads are lacking. In addition, they stated that if you so choose to go all NA, you could have the heads milled/decked to increase compression somewhat. So it might not be a bad idea to have the done all at once with this manifold, cams, and valve springs (since all the labor is connected in a way), but then you are talking about $$$ and an NA monster!

You can't mill the heads too much, as the timing chain will have too much slap and it will result in catastrophic engine failure if the chain where to skip - especially on a high reving NA motor.
I'm trying to secure a intake manifold, I will have pictures of the one I got hopefully tomorrow and I will get going on the whole job. In the mean time I think I could get a roots blower "kit" made for our cars. I just dont know how well it would "flow" at top end and if the bottom end would hold up to instant boost. I have a feeling it would be quite a gain. I have to see if I can get my hands on a upgraded or even a stock GM 3800 Series II blower.....

Yeah same as the GTP, but I am thinking of something that is more efficient and can supply more air.... those blowers are not too expenssive. I could get my buddy to make an adapter plate so it bolts up to the stock lower IM and a piece that would connect the TB to the blower. Basically a KIT along with a pulley and tenssioner. You would buy the blower on your own.

according to some shops that have done a lot of vq35 heads, they can mill them quite a bit as the chain tensioner has some adjustability...but you have to keep in mind that even a tiny bit of milling results in huge changes in compression...so when those shops say quite a bit, they mean .0something"...lol

Hey,
any idea of how many benjamiins we are talking? no cams, just the valve job? Where is your guy located?
TIA.

Mike,
Why not one of the S/C from a Xterra?

It's kinda small, and the engines are different, but it looks good....
This one is on my 2003 Frontier SC....

as far as just the valve job goes, he offers what they refer to as a "head refresh" consisting of these services:
Complete Teardown
Complete Visual Inspection
Check All Surfaces for Straightness
Inspect Valve Train for Wear
Fully Degreased & Cleaned
Competition Valve Job
$350
or you can go with the next level they offer:
This includes porting intake and exhaust bowls and short side radius
Match intake and exhaust 36 mm into ports
Competition mult-angle valve job
Hand lapped & vacuum tested valve seats
Lap deck and gasket surfaces
Deburr, clean, and reassemble
$750 +$60 for any milling
of course there are many levels and work above this which start to go way up in price after this...

michael... is that PER head or for both heads ? I have a local machine shop that will do everything but porting for the same $$$. I use them on regular basis and I am very satisfied with the results.
intake manifold idea has been scrapped for the supercharger project. Unfortunatelly the manifold I wanted to use would require way too much work to make it cost efficient. Manifold I was trying to use was a magnesium unit off a 04-06 Acura TL. It flows very well and has dual stage design.... its pretty cheap new and thats why I wanted to use it.
I will have to use a M90 SC off a Bonneville as the ones off the Xterra are hard to find- althou I see 1-2 on Ebay, they are not as eassy to find as the 3800 ones. Basically what I am aiming for is a SC starter kit that will allow you to buy a SC of your own and use our parts to install it on the motor. This would make the "kit" cheaper to purchase. Only thing I would leave out is ofcourse any kinda computer programming- like Emanage Ultimate. My car will be the test car for this project. I have a EU that I will tune and I could share my base program with people here so they could get the car runing safe from the get go.....

If your going to use a s/c from a 3800, use an 04+ Gen V m90. They are less of a heat gun than the 96-03 Gen III m90.
The Gen V gained 20 hp stock over the old Gen III. There were a few other minor tweaks but the efficiency was the better part of the hp increase.
With your higher compression VQs you'll definitely want the extra efficiency to keep outlet temps down.

I was really hoping this IM became a reality. Anyway, I'll be following your progress on this new endevour. This seems like an inexpensive alternative to the other kit available.
