How Much Does a VQ30DE Weigh?

I have been searching for this information but have yet to stumble upon it.

I am looking for the weight of a VQ30DE and if some one also happens to know how much a VQ30DE and Manual Transmission happen to weigh together that would also be useful to me.

Thanks!

Best Regards,
JP

A bare VQ30 weighs about 180lbs. The transmission is supposed to be about 110-140lbs. I have found conflicting numbers.

I've got a motor and trans out of the car right now sitting in my garage. I have one bare longblock (just block, heads LIM, no accessories, no upper intake manifold, no exhaust manifolds, no coolant crap, nothing) and also a block that is sortof bare and will have all the accessories put on it (alternator, PS pump, etc). Also I have a VLSD 2001 trans and a 95 open diff trans, do you want me to weight them for you, if you want me to weight the motors, let me know what configuration you want them in when i weigh them. Fully decked out or bare, somewhere in the middle, etc.

And btw I've always figured the 5spd trans to weigh 110lbs which agrees with what others have found.

I appreciate your willingness to help me out... If its possiable I would actually be interested in both just a bare bones weight and also the weight afterwards with all accessories installed.

Thanks!

The MT seemed way lighter than that to me. I picked it up no problem and carried it several hundred feet. I was thinking more like 95 pounds.

BTW Broaner, when you say you're "VQ-ing" a 240sx, do you mean vq30 or vq35? Vq35-powered 240sx would rip

I'm doing a VQ30 with a V1. And its stripped. So 2200lbs with 300 WHP should equal fun for all...

He already did by just replacing the upper FWD oil pan with a RWD oil pan.

Check the link on the top of my Maxima homepage. I'll post pics of the motor tranny mated together tonight. Here it is with the 350Z exhaust mani.

Purty! I love the look of a clean and polished aluminum engine.

I would have gone with a VQ35 though. It would be like a 350z weighting 2200 instead of 3200

That was Thaniel. Check this thread. I finally did something with that dud panel to the right of the steering wheel... He did all the hard work such as designing the TOB spacer and figuring out all the flywheel, clutch, starter issues.

I did the VQ30 because of what had available. I had a full Maxima as a donor which means I wouldn't have to hassle with locating and buying a wiring harness, ECU or motor. And I also have tons of parts for the VQ30 which include but is not limited to a V1 blower and its matching bracket. My plan for next winter is to pull the motor and start over with some sort of 3.5/3.0 hybrid combo. Then I'm upping the boost and tossing on an intercooler. 400 wheel will be no problem but that is two years away as the suspension on this car is rediculous and the chassis needs a lot of beefing. Also, I'm not a fan of the 3.5 just because of all that variable trickery. I like things to be constant and easy to tune. At this point I don't care if it means 20 less HP or TQ.

Steve has been bugging me about making some for him. I guess I will but the price needs to be right. It took me well over four hours just to grind down the FWD mounts to a point where they would clear the mani's. Now I need to extend them forward and down. And I'm not aiming at making a smooth sophisticated car so the mounts will be held with hockey pucks. And we all know that the hockey pucks are hard as sh!t so the mounts are basically solid steel. Seriously though, I think I'd ask over $300 for a set of VQ/240 motor mounts. A buddy and I were kinda toying around with the idea of making a full VQ/240 swap kit but that would be well over $4K in parts alone.

I wish I could post up more pics but my ISP at the house is down and that is where my card reader for the camera is.

BTW, you don't need any of that "variable crap" for the 3.5 swap. Just the motor +130 bucks' worth of extras and you're done. You can use the old Ecu/wiring easily.

I understand your point of view, I just think a fully modded, All motor 3.5 in a 2200 lbs 6-speed 240sx would be capable of high 11-second passes at 115 or so mph, while pulling ridiculous Fuel economy due to the weight and being super reliable.

Still, 3.0 + V1 will rock, just more expensive. Very cool (and original) projet anyway. VQ + boost + RWD = Sky's the limit.
