Looking for some quiet, minimal dust & Long lasting brake pads.

Anything BESIDES Axxis ulitmate pads from group deals. I have those now. Spent a good penny. They lasted me a little over a year before going complete junk. (well the inners anyway)

They also dusted a lot for "ceramic" The guy that sold them won't warrent them. I am sure you can guess who he is, but he was nice about it so no complants in that dept, I just wish he could help me out a little bit considering I spend a $350 bucks on stuff from him last year.

So what else can I get for pads? I heard good things about Hawk pads, The Carbon ones I believe. Will those give me what I want? Are there group deals on other nice pads? Also what are some good sites that have the best prices on pads? I have went to buybrakes and Tirerack aready.

Thanks for who ever can help me with this.

Get OEM pads. They are pretty good and low dusting

hmm, Thanks for the reply but I kinda don't want Metal composite. IT really is not low on dust imho.

I have been using Satisfied carbon/ceramics for a couple years now and am very happy, but they are cost prohibitive at over $200 for the set.

+1 to HPS. Great pads, should have come OEM.

OEM pads are too damn mushy and begin to fade with a single slow stop from 80.

You need to buy a different pad. Axxis Ultimate is NOT your everyday grocery-getter street pad. It's designed for high heat applications and hard use. Street driving never gets them hot enough to do what they're intended to do and will cause increased pad and rotor wear.

What's your planned use for the pads? street? agressive street? any track events or mountain runs?

If you're just driving your car ont he street, OEM pads are perfectly acceptable.
I also like Wagner Thermoquiet, Bendix IQ, and the other 'premium' pads you can buy at parts stores. They're ~$40-50/set for those and I use them all the time for daily-driver vehicles.

low dust, low noise, long wear. they just don't have the heat capacity to use on a race track or for long aggressive drives. IF you want to do that, you'll need to stick with something a bit more hearty, like Hawk HPS.

BUT.. Hawk HPS aren't exactly a low-dust pad. they're far from it compared to the others I listed above.

Have you ever driven a 4th gen with OEM pads? I have and hated every minute of it. I'm an aggressive driver but as I said I'd get fade at the end of offramps and be worried about stopping on them at the bottom. If you are going 100+ and want to slow relatively quickly be prepared to put some serious leg into it. I felt like I was abusing those pads whenever I did anything but drive like a grandma.

^ i agree. When I bought the car they had OEMs, now, OEMs were old sure, but the stopping power was ****. When I got these I was like WOWWWW. The stopping power was awesome. I felt like I put a big brake kit in almost. lol. It was really like night and day.

Also Ultimate's are ceramic and Kevlar according to the guy who sold them hence why they suck on dust. Now about the heat thing. I had a E-brake cable give me issues last year because it was rusted due to being pinched between the Control arm. Now my rotor turned BEAT red one night. It was cool. I have it on a topic somewhere. look it up. Anyway. The pads shim on the back turned to toast from this. SO I am not sure how good these are on heat apps if that happens. After that I got nasty deposits on the pads that causes uneven brake wear and they just got loud. Also when I slam on the brakes it feels like my rotors are warped, but really it is just the pads.

OEM pads for 4 gen are same as 3 gen. Front calipers are the same. Rears are different, but 4 gen has bigger rear discs and a different location for parking brake cable. the pads are the same though.

I never had a problem with ONE stop from 80-90mph on OEM pads. It was when you had to do more than one consecutively. And once you get past that point, you're no longer in 'grocery getter' category, which is why I asked that question and phrased my comments the way I did.

I've had zero problems with OEM pads on my wife's Altima or my GXE when I had them on there. (her altima used same front calipers/pads as the maxima..) I even took many a spirited drive through the Ozark mountains (hills) with her car loaded with all the holiday crapola and the brakes did fine on it.

Based on S1c's comments above though, he's not in grocery getter category either, which at that point I'd recommend the Bendix IQ or something of that nature.

HPS are not as good as everyone says they are, Although they offer enough rnough performance for pretty much any street driven car.

Ask anyone who knows me.. knows my car always looks like **** cause the wheels are always black/gray regardless of how many times I clean them.

My brakes constantly squeel every time I use them.. I am just used to this by now.. but this is not a pad you want to put in your girlfriends car or something.

They started to go mushy for me at the end of a short offramp, especially if I had other people in the car.

As for HPS, "good" is a relative term. They are way better than OEM, better bite, much better fade resistance, they are not all that high dust and they don't squeal.

I have however noticed a "grinding" sensation when you stop on them and they're heated up a bit.

the point behind my comment was I drove a 3 gen on OEM brakes pretty damn hard and it was just fine. sinec the 3 gen and 4 gen have the same brakes and the 4 gen is lighter, then you shouldn't have an issue with them on a DD.

If your brakes got mushy, it wasn't a pad problem anyway- it was a fluid issue.

Hawk pads work great grip like hell , not so much dust

my OEM brakes always sucked for me i rid of the stock calipers and upgraded to the Brembo Calipers from the Sentra SE-R with Hawk Pads and Redrilled sentra Bembo Rotors works great love ta stop now and im not to sure but i think im the first to do this ona maxima.
